Does reading books really make you more interesting/improve your character?

Just some ideas:

You spend less time on social media or fapping or in front of the TV
You learn a lot of things if you chose books that can teach you something (technical, hobbies, ...)
You can reflect on previous opinions if you educate yourself enough to learn different aspects of thing that concert you (politics, environment, economics, ...)
You're able to talk about the things you read and keep up in conversations about the things you read (SciFi, Ploitics, basically everything)
Increases your spelling skills, a good counterweight to reading user content online

Dont waste your time with novels.

"How to win friends and influence people" will really help you socially.

Conversation Casanova is a cheap book on Amazon that can help you brush up on first meet talking topics.

What every body is saying can help you differentiate between IOIs, IODs, lies, manipulation, peoples weaknesses and etc...

And all the other reccomended reading material is good stuff

Reading will help you live life in third person. You will see every situation objectively without your own emotions and desires conflicting with the actual message others are trying to convey.

More directly, reading will expand your vocabulary which helps immensely with gaining the respect of others. Average Joe or Jane doesn't read an entire book in a year and their vocabulary is tiny and often very specialized to their field of work, yet context clues will help them decipher your meaning when you use advanced vocabulary. This will keep them hanging on your every word as they can't afford to allow their attention to lax for even a moment or they will miss something crucial to your message. They will immediately feel they are surpassed intellectually and you will be the defacto leader of the group.

It'll subtly but distinctly change the way you speak and write. There are so many words that you know that you never use in everyday communication because you forgot you know them. Reading helps remind you of those words, along with new ways to form thoughts and sentences. Just a little bit of reading of quality writing will remind you of an interesting word that you can try to use IRL.

It makes you more interesting and helps you communicate how damn interesting you are.

Reading fiction is the easiest way to make gains in so-called emotional IQ, because you're seeing the world from someone else's point of view. Think of it as de-sperglerization.

Fiction is good, only make sure you read stuff that's actually worthwhile (classical literature is the safest), non-fiction is great too, as long as you read books written by actual scientists, and not some random authors. Unfortunately, both fiction and non-fiction is mostly rubbish today. A total waste of time, if you ask me. It won't improve your vocabulary or knowledge, it will make you dumber, if anything, just as much as watching any TV shows. So make sure something you read is not just "popular", but that it's an actual piece of literature.

You'll remember fuck all from a book you've read just to expand your vocabulary and have something to talk about anyway.
