[Unrelated Rant] Hi! First off hats off to you guys who are older than me by a decade or more. I can only imagine that without the internet, it was probably pretty unlikely for me to have ever found kindred spirits like the ones here, and I have a lot of respect for you guys probably having to make it on your own for quite some time. You guys are basically the dad I never had when it comes to navigating through what, as men, we must deal with in today's society, and I really do appreciate the knowledge and experiences you share on here so that younger men like myself might benefit.

[Relevant Background Info] Here's my deal. After working pretty hard for the past few years as an undergraduate, I've recently received an acceptance to medical school here in the US. right now, I'm single, and there's no reason to think I'll develop a serious relationship in the 7 months remaining until I matriculate. My concern is that, at some point, I will be a single male physician or a single male medical student soon to be a physician who, (and I'm not saying I'm much of a catch, if I were I wouldn't be single lol, but I know that) to the right (or should I say, the wrong) type of woman, a young single doctor is the epitomy of the free meal ticket they've been dreaming of.

I'm bad at reading people. I'm a science guy, and I can deal with people well enough, but I'm far from the type of person who can get a real good feel for who someone is, even if I think I know them (e.g. my previous girlfriend who I dated for years only to find out that apparently I hardly knew her at all). So I'm worried. I don't want to have my sperm get jacked by some hussie trying to make a living off child support, and I don't want to fall for another one who marries me and leaves me after a few years so she can make an even better living off of alimony and child support. And I used to think, "easy, just pick a decent girl". But since I've grown older, and especially with own experience from the ex I thought I knew, I see guys way smarter than I getting fucked over by women left and right. Not that all women do this I understand. But my point is, I'm going to be a single guy, who can't read people, especially women, well (because I'm naturally shy and introverted), and I'll have a profession that has become the archetypal sign for "Meal Ticket (however untrue it is that all physicians make all that much money) for women who are out looking to take advantage of someone. And if men smarter than me fall prey everyday it seems, I know that but for the grace of god/allah/fate/chance, I can just easily make the same mistake without realizing it before it's too late.

TL;DR I'd appreciate it if you guys who have 'been there' could give me advice on how to date as a young professional man who doesn't want to become somebody's free meal ticket. What to look for, how to find women, whether I should ever pursue a girl if she approaches me first, ect. Anything will be appreciated. Thanks!
