"There is a world wide global feminist movement which is funded in the billions, it is well organised, it is institutionalised and it is teaching your boys as well as your girls what being human is all about right now. And it has got nothing, whatsoever, to do with equality." -- Karen Woodall

For those of you who tl;dr

  1. Couples with children 'have to work THREE TIMES as hard as single mothers to stay above the poverty line', claims report

  2. More than half of single mothers have never lived with a husband or boyfriend because they make the ‘lifestyle choice’ to stay on their own, a study has revealed.

  3. Half of single mothers 'do not want to work', says report

  4. Grandmothers, mothers and daughters now live without husbands or fathers and rely on the state for support, a study found yesterday. Three-generation single mother families where no one works and which contain no men are now common, according to the analysis by researcher Geoff Dench.

In other words, we have a situation which is not sustainable and will continue to become more unsustainable until these entitlements are rolled back.

Same as in the U.S. The system is self-enforcing, creating circumstances which make remaining within a more attractive option than trying to get out (at least from a financial standpoint) and which are a detriment to the social development of the kids involved. And every time there is immediate evidence of the system's unsustainability, certain factions of politicians in our government fight to increase funding instead of making changes.

What a bunch of bullshit. MY ex is a piece of shit who wanted nothing to do with my daughter. I work my ass off and still have problems 'staying above poverty line'

I'll just bring up a couple of things, unrelated to the most obvious thing (the billions taxpayers are paying for these women).

First, this situation is a nightmare for the children. They are being raised in a way which (absent father) that has been shown (in male children for sure, not sure about female children) to be most associated with delinquency and mental health issues. On top of that, they are only being raised with the feminine point of view. The normal complementing of the feminine with the masculine (and vice versa) is not there.

Second, this situation is destroy the status and bargaining power of men for relationships. Imagine if the government (which is really just the taxpayers being gutted) was providing men with similar services for things they desire. A man applies and the government (i.e. taxpayers) sense a reasonable looking woman out to his apartment three times a week. She does some cleaning, does some cooking, hangs out with him and is emotionally supportive, and provides sexual services. What do you think that would do to other women trying to have relationships with men? It would completely undermine them and destroy their status and bargaining power.

Or, another version. Imagine policies more exact to those women are getting. Policies that allowed for a man to apply to have a government surrogate mother carry his child, after which they pay the man to stay at home. A lot of men would go for that. The tempation is so great. Get to have offspring (a legacy, the enjoyment of family), get to stay at home with them, how sweet is that. Again, average women would be completely undermined and lose alot of power in forming relationships.

Awesome points that deserve to be discussed in a separate 'self' post:

Thank you. I could have also added the one-sided family law system to the equation. Basically, at every step of the way (single in a relationship or in a marriage), the government (under pressure from feminists) has set things up so that women have no reason (outside of their own senses of honor and fairness) to show men any respect or to even be reasonable or cooperative with men. Of course, men still are in reality needed. They have to keep paying taxes to fund all this. They have to enforce all this misandry upon their fellow men (e.g. white knights, manginas, law enforcement officials, businessmen running privatized vulture child support collection organizations--I say vulture because it has been documented that they use their insider status to influence child suppport amounts to go up and intentionally try to make men go into arrearages because the penalty fees increase their profits).

They have to keep paying taxes to fund all this.

No they don't: "Men Going Their Own Way".

If you are not supporting a wife and children you don't need much money, and the opportunity for the state to leech off you is far less.

I agree, this deserves to be its own post.

[–]actanonverba8[S] 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If anything I've said can help you develop some kind of posts discussing the billions wasted and the complete undermining of men, feel free. Or, maybe I will in the future. In any case, I do agree with you that this perspective needs more attention.

Who do you think pays into the system that keeps the welfare state running? Overwhelmingly men.

Stop creating incentives for single mothers to continue having more children for a start. One MRA from Australia told me recently he'd seen a case where one woman was receiving over AUD$80,000 per year in welfare for herself and her five children (by four different fathers). The median household income in Australia (that's with two working adults) is around AUD$72,000 per year.

Are there specific pieces of legislation currently being debated that would make it easier?

No. None.

Are there any current attempts to make it harder for single mothers to take money directly from taxpayers wallets?

No. None. What politician wants to be portrayed as "attacking single mothers"?

Is it also a problem in your country?

Yes.

If you're american, would you consider writing a petition on Whitehouse.gov? https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/create

Utterly pointless. Change has to come at the local level first.
