Grew up in India friends. Nothing new about this. Huge population, limited resources, tougher life makes people lot more insensitive. Even if 1000 people die of something in your city, you just raise your eyebrows and get on with your work the next day. Massive (socio-ecomonic) class structure as well.. things get lot worse for lower classes. cops themselves are violent like in the below.. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8183662.stm As usual most violence gets absorbed by men. Back when I was in high school 2 decades ago, if you mess with some girl and her brothers/father find out, they will come looking for you.. even if you are in school. At the same time, pop-culture is always teasing you with female sexuality and the usual happily-ever-after romance stories. I hear things have loosened a bit in some sections of the cities with the newer generations.
