I've been saying this for years, and the only counter offered thus far to me has been "women are discouraged from entering politics", which even if true doesn't refute the argument.

Just look at spending on women's vs men's issues.

Qanan had a link showing funding at about a 100-1 rate, and actual existing programs at a 300-1 rate. The link is now defunct, but perhaps could be cached.

Whenever I hear that the amount of women in Congress is not representational of the amount of women in the nation, I always ask "Well, why aren't more women running?" It's not meant to be an exclusively male field; there's no inherent gender-bias in running a political race. If women are up in arms about mishandled remarks about rape and pregnancy (which should be chalked up to poor education, if anything), why not just run for office.

I live in New York and Gillibrand makes me sick with all of her adverts on women being more competent in Congress. Screw having more men OR women in politics, just get me some educated people with civic duty in mind.

feminists would counter with the kind of reasoning like: "all laws are by default made for men" or in the case of history, inventors, etc., "all history is by default filled with men because of repression of females". So if there is no gender mentioned, the semantic framework goes that it must therefore by definition benefit men foremost.

I might ask different questions to this, in a great nod to the Patriarchy:

Is there anything wrong with a woman trusting a man to better protect her interests?
Wasn't it always her father that made her feel safest?
Didn't we men always sacrifice more, to achieve the greater good?
Given the choice between a woman and man, might not a man's appearance, superior height and oratory skills prove more compelling?

There's something... vaguely off about this article. I mean, it's completely true. Men are massively under-represented in politics compared to women, and it's a huge issue here. But... I just can't figure out why I'm feeling like this article is still bad.

Strange.

Edit: wait, maybe it's because of conflicting definitions of representation? Y'know, how a representative from Ohio can talk about Texas, but that doesn't make him a representative of Texas. That's probably it.
