Evolution gave us emotions to drive our behavior. And of course evolution is shaped by reproductive success. Having control over one's own reproduction is the most fundamental type of control an organism can have, and it is therefore given the strongest emotional behavior-field of protection.

For women, losing control of one's reproductive choice happens when they are raped. Because once that happens, if they get pregnant (in a pre-technological society), they're stuck with that fetus until it grows and pops out. In short, to rape a woman is to steal her reproductive freedom from her, and hence evolution has shaped the emotions around being raped to be some of the worst a woman can experience.

What is the corresponding reproductive trauma for a man? What experience in life removes a man's reproductive power and hence has evolved the strongest emotional response associated with reproduction? Cuckoldry. The worst thing that can happen to a man's reproductive power is to discover that he has poured years of his energy into offspring which do not carry his own genes. Just as rape destroy's a woman's reproductive freedom, so too does cuckoldry destroy a man's reproductive freedom.

Want to understand what a woman feels like when she's been raped, gentlemen? You only have to look as far as that feeling in your gut when you find a woman you're devoted to has been fucking another man. THAT is the emotion that evolution has associated with our reproductive power being scrambled away from us.
