It's the same people making requests and it's the same people who support it, they should ban them

[–]Jess_than_three 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

Of course. Certainly making and supporting requests is ban-worthy.

[–]dumbguyscene28 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

Yes, in fact, trying to break reddit is against the rules. Some might consider break reddit to be a purely technical attack like a DDOS or other exploitation, I am not an admin, but I consider frequent malicious attempts to take over other sub reddits a clear attempt to break reddit.

It's not like reddit is running out of name space for new reddits.

[–]Tsiya[S] 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

While trying to obtain a modship on /r/circlejerk (I think), AlyoshaV launched a bot that posted the same thing every 2 seconds nearly 45,000 times, which crashed the thread. To me, that's dangerous bots and breaking reddit.

[–]dumbguyscene28 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh, absolutely!

[+]Jess_than_three -7 points-6 points-5 points 13 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Okay, cool. Now can you please explain to me how requesting

  1. a banned, inactive subreddit

  2. a private, inactive subreddit with one subscriber

is "trying to break reddit"?

And would you also like to support your "malicious"ness claim?

[–]dumbguyscene28 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

AlyoshaV has a history of trying to take over reddits that she seems to oppose on ideological grounds.

Why does this person do this? Is reddit running out of name space?

Why should her many requests be seen as anything other than gaming reddit and trying to break it?

And if that is the case, how is that not malicious?

[–]Maschalismos -3 points-2 points-1 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

how is that not malicious?

Because a woman is doing it...... Duh.

[–]Jess_than_three 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's cute. I'm honestly not sure what AlyoshaV's gender is; all I know for sure is that AlyoshaV hates people telling others what pronouns to use in reference to AlyoshaV - and of course the fact that vowel ending aside, "Alyosha" is a male name.

[–]dumbguyscene28 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Read here: http://www.reddit.com/r/redditrequest/comments/10csmr/request_unbanning_and_control_of_rbrosrights_to/c6cdd6e

AlyoshaV's responses clearly indicate this is a disingenuous attempt.

[–]Jess_than_three -2 points-1 points0 points 13 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

I don't see how being insincere equates to "maliciousness" and an intent to "break reddit". What actual, concrete harms do you see arising from this request being granted?

Edit: LOL, thanks, whoever reported me. Love that 9-minute lockout.

So, on your other comment:

Why should her many requests be seen as anything other than gaming reddit and trying to break it?

Because it doesn't "break" anything?

And if that is the case, how is that not malicious?

Because maliciousness requires intent to harm, and there are no plausible harms here?

[–]Ted8367 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

no plausible harms here?

You establish yourself as a moderator of a subreddit the name of which suggests a certain philosophy, and may have a history of carrying posts with that philosophy. You then sucker in more posters who believe they are making posts to a group with that particular philosophy. But the moderator is of a different mind, and can subtly channel the discussions.

Very dishonest, and damaging to proper discussions.

[–]dumbguyscene28 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I'm not going to answer any of your questions because I have a crap to poop. (No offense....)

But I am genuinely curious as to this:

Edit: LOL, thanks, whoever reported me. Love that 9-minute lockout.

I am newish to reddit, and occasionally am told something along the lines of, "I am doing that too much, I need to post again in 5 minutes, 9 minutes, etc."

Is that what you are referring to?

Why do you think this was due to a "report" and not just reddit functionality?

Seriously, I don't know, and am interested as a new redditor as to what you are talking about.

I'm not going to answer any of your questions because I have a crap to poop. (No offense....)

"I'm not going to answer any of your questions because I don't actually have an answer."

Why do you think this was due to a "report" and not just reddit functionality?

That's something that affects new accounts, yes. My account is far from new, however. In most (read: basically all) subreddits I can post freely, as can anyone else. In this subreddit, I need to wait 9 minutes between comments. This is something that occurs when people report someone's comments.

Basically, the reason I think this is because of, you know, knowing how reddit works.

Edit: I'm told that it's actually a result of having negative karma in a given subreddit. Makes me a bit confused as to why I don't also have a lockout in SRD, but there you have it.

[–]dumbguyscene28 3 points4 points5 points 13 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

I don't see how being insincere equates to "maliciousness" and an intent to "break reddit". What actual, concrete harms do you see arising from this request being granted?

I posted some questions for AlyoshaV and her response to them indicates to me she would not be a good moderator -- she expressed no real interest or understanding of "bros rights" in a college context.

Advancing false arguments in a discussion is straw manning and concern trolling. Doing this under the guise of a moderator damages Reddit's reputation and so damages all of reddit.

I think the SRS form of moderation is damaging to discourse and damaging to Reddit. I believe her making so many requests to take over subreddits is an attempt to spread that form of malicious, harmful moderation through reddit and hence take over and corrupt reddit.

I think the admins have plenty enough to do without her constant pestering and gaming and breaking of reddit. I would prefer the admins spend time adminning and not dealing with a crank whose intentions are clearly bad.

I think your posting history indicates you are likely clueless or disingenuous.

EDIT: So adding that responding to your questions in depth is a losing proposition because you seem either unable to understand them or disingenuous.

I posted some questions for AlyoshaV and her response to them indicates to me she would not be a good moderator -- she expressed no real interest or understanding of "bros rights" in a college context.

That's cool. That doesn't explain actual, concrete harms.

Advancing false arguments in a discussion is straw manning and concern trolling. Doing this under the guise of a moderator damages Reddit's reputation and so damages all of reddit.

Hardly. But if you agree with that, surely you're actively calling for subreddits like /r/beatingwomen to be banned, right? Those do a hell of a lot more to damage Reddit's reputation than AlyoshaV running a joke subreddit about "bros" would.

I think the SRS form of moderation is damaging to discourse and damaging to Reddit. I believe her making so many requests to take over subreddits is an attempt to spread that form of malicious, harmful moderation through reddit and hence take over and corrupt reddit.

You do understand that moderators of one subreddit can't force their rules on another, and that nobody can make someone go to a subreddit they don't like the rules of, right? Like, even if AlyoshaV were to implement rules that were copied directly from SRS, that isn't exactly "spreading" that moderation in any way that hurts users that don't like it.

And I'd be really curious, BTW, to see any sort of explanation of how the moderation of other subreddits is "damaging to discourse and damaging to Reddit".

I think the admins have plenty enough to do without her constant pestering and gaming and breaking of reddit. I would prefer the admins spend time adminning and not dealing with a crank whose intentions are clearly bad.

Unsupported assumptions:

  • "gaming and breaking of reddit"

  • "whose intentions are bad"

I think your posting history indicates you are likely clueless or disingenuous.

That's nice. Would you like to cite anything specific to criticize, or are you just going to make really vague ad hominems? I ask because as of right now that's a pretty weak attempt to dismiss me - and also of course, because I'm very curious as to why you think I'm "clueless or disingenuous". (Probably saw me supporting liberal politics and feminism, I guess - so I must be either an idiot or a troll.)

So adding that responding to your questions in depth is a losing proposition because you seem either unable to understand them or disingenuous.

It's fairly ridiculous to assert that I "seem unable to understand" something that I haven't ever seen. I assure you, though, I'm quite sincere.

[–]cthulufunk 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's happened to me a couple of times recently.

It's too easy to accidentally hit "report" on some devices. Hanlon's Razor.

[–]Jess_than_three 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I may in fact be mistaken. Someone else informed me that I was wrong and that it's actually about having negative comment karma in a given subreddit.

Opened a request for SRS : http://www.reddit.com/r/redditrequest/comments/10cy4q/requesting_rshitredditsays_to_clean_it_up_and/

Guys throw in your support :-)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In all honesty, I don't think this will make much of an impact or is something we should be overly concerned about. For better or for worse, r/mensright has become well enough known that SRS's attempts to absorb the smaller, like-minded sounding reddits (r/brosrights, r/truemensrights, etc) are pointless. Even if somebody stumbles upon one of them, the fact that is has <100 subscribers and is be filled with so overly-obvious hatred and trolling should tip them off that they're in the wrong place.

It is rather amusing though to see them going to such lengths.

[–]truthjusticeca 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This has nothing to do with r/mensrights

[–]Fundieathiest 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What is SRS?

[–]Curebores 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

/r/ShitRedditSays AKA a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

[–]Ma99ie 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Let'em. Never heard of 'em.
