Mine is a fairly long one so bear with me-

My half sister's parent's had an on-again off-again relationship for the first 9 years of her life. Her mother was heavy into drugs and was always scheming to get ahead (welfare fraud, petty lawsuits, things of this nature). Our father, while not the perfect father, raised her as a single dad from age 3 up until she was around 12.

Around age 10 or so my sister began romanticizing the idea of living with her mother. Aided by her mother, they would collude and file reports with cps the court and whoever would listen. After having his buttons pushed too many times, my father snapped. My father was a heavy drinker and one night while drunk he insinuated that my sister was pushing him to the edge of suicide and asked if that was what she wanted. This is where he lost custody.

Almost immediately, my sister found out that living with her mother wasn't what she imagined. She went from a quiet/clean house in a good neighborhood, to living in shitty unkempt apartments for a few months at a time before the eventual evictions. Her mother also would have crazy mood swings resulting in intense verbal altercations that would sometimes get physical. Over the next 3 years the altercations became more frequent, often resulting in my sister being kicked out of the house for days at a time with nowhere to go as the courts had removed any parental rights my father had. In school, my sister was a model student; carrying straight A's, drum major, sports and all.

After losing custody of my sister, my father's alcoholism rapidly spiraled out of control, eventually claiming his life. My sister's mother saw this as her chance to collect and filed social security paperwork that day. Having lived with her mom for 3 years now, my sister had realized by then that she was merely a paycheck for her mother, and made an attempt to block her mother from accessing any of the social security money she would be entitled to. Based on her mother's previous fraud offenses, my sister filed a request (successfully) that her paternal grandmother be named as custodian to her social security funds. This didn't mean that she wouldn't get any of the money. It just meant my grandmother would have to be the middle-man before any money was distributed.

When the decision letter reached her mother, she blew up. She demanded that my sister pack her things and find a new place to live. After years of being my sister's shoulder to cry on, I decided to take a stand. I started renting a house in my sister's school district and moved my sister in. I took some of my dad's life insurance money, hired myself a lawyer, and was granted an ex parte motion for temporary guardianship.

I jumped through all the legal hoops I needed to (guardianship classes, background checks) and despite having no parental experience, being relatively young (26), going against the mother, and having a pending felony vandalism case, I was still able to convince the court that I was the more stable environment for my sister. After a trial basis of a couple months, I was granted full guardianship.

It's been a little over 2 years. My sister is now a senior, honor roll student, and planning on going to college to study medicine.

TL;DR - I took my sister's mother to court for guardianship, and won.

Long story short, when I was around 18 I was at a party at some girls house, got really drunk, got into an altercation with a friend, got pissed that she took his side, and left to go walk it off. While walking in the middle of the night, I came across a bat and started swinging at shit because I was drunk and angry. A cop showed up, treated me decently, and even gave me a ride back to near the party (I wasn't about to bring a cop to a house full of underage kids getting loaded).

I am now divorced from an alcoholic, who is also a compulsive hoarder. I have custody of my son. I struggled to get the local courts and child welfare authorities to understand hoarding, and its impact on my son, mostly unsuccessfully for a year and a half after I moved out. During that initial period, I shared custody evenly with my ex. I died a little inside every time I sent my son to her pathologically disgusting house.

Finally, last April, I'm home alone on a night my ex had custody. At about midnight, I get a voicemail from my ex. In the voicemail I can hear glasses clinking, and her highly intoxicated voice. "What the fuck? she has our son tonight, where the fuck is she?"

I'll shorten the story: I call the cops, and meet her at her house when she returns. She's so hammered that she's passed out on the steering wheel of her car when the cops arrive. She's arrested and charged with her second DUI, and child endangerment.

Prior to her trial, I call the DA assigned to her case, and discuss all the shit I've been through with her. I send him pictures of her house. I plead with him to make the child endangerment charge stick, no matter how he pleads her on the DUI, even if she gets no jail time for the endangerment charge. He does just that, and calls me right after her sentencing. Game over! She'll never have custody of my son again.

The cops who came when I initially called were completely awesome, and added the child endangerment charge to try and help me (they told me so); they weren't sure it was going to stick, they just felt bad for me. Those cops that night, and the DA in my ex's case, saved me and my son from years of hurt and struggle. Thanks to those guys, from the bottom of my heart, forever!

I was accused by a sibling of doing horrible things to her and a female cousin when they were both young. These accusations tore a very large family apart instantly. I received emails and certified letters threatening me from the new families and spouses of these two women. My aunts (6 of them) and my mother and wife all came to my defense. They proved I was living out of state at the time they said it was occurring. These false claims have permanently scarred me and my family. I don't socialize with any of them, stay out of their lives and try and live mine.

About 5 years later my wife decided to fall in love with a man who is 9 years older than her mother, got the house, the kids, everything. Such is the legal system. We had a very "friendly" divorce and after our last hearing we had coffee. She informed me that she would fight til the day she died against those who accused me. Basically she said I was a great father, great person, great husband. I could see the guilt on her face and felt sorry for her.

Fast forward to today-I have an incredible relationship with all my children and ex, I am engaged to the most beautiful, kind, caring, understanding, sexy (just in case she reads this! Hi babe!) woman of my dreams. It is the perfect relationship, lots of communication, friendship, shared interests. All is never lost, even when the world seems dark. Being a man and walking through life is very treacherous and precarious, take one step at a time.

This was kind of a minor victory, i had posted it in the past on a previous topic, but ill restate it here. Several months back i got a job at a call center. I had noticed on one gentlemen's desk was a picture of his fiancee. The picture of is her from the waist up, she is wearing a bikini top, goofy glasses, and a big goofy grin. At some point someone complained about the picture and he was forced to remove it. The following week HR held a mandatory sexual harassment class.They pointed out examples of sexual harassment and his picture was used as an example. I used that moment to point out that several female employees had photos of half naked hunky men in various poses adorning their cubicles. To HR's credit these pictures were also removed.
