Let's face it, abortion is a physically intrusive procedure and is more difficult for women than financial abortion/legal paternal surrender is for men.

In order to even the playing field and make the idea of financial abortion more appealing to women as well, I thought of an idea; if a man wishes to legally surrender his paternity and obligations, he must first announce his willingness to opt out of fatherhood before the deadline for abortion. At the same time, he must pledge that he will pay for the woman's abortion if she chooses to abort. Note that this does NOT mean that the man has a say on the woman's bodily decision; the decision to abort lies on the woman and the woman only.

If she chooses abortion, he will pay $300-$950, which is the cost of abortion in the first trimester according to Planned Parenthood (http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/abortion/in-clinic-abortion-procedures-4359.asp). If she chooses to keep the child even after the man has clarified his intention to opt out of fatherhood and pledged support for abortion fees, the man will not be accountable for financial support. $300 to $950 might seem like a hefty sum at first, but it's at least better than paying tens of thousands of dollars for a child you didn't want to have for 18 years.
