The (gender) feminist idea of equality
ftfy
[–]dakru 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Thank you. I'd be very displeased to go on a site and hear about "the male idea of" whatever, claiming that men are fine with rape or something, so I'm not going to accept it the other way. This is the gender partisan (or victim-fetish) feminists.
[–]MikeFromBC 5 points6 points7 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Female =/= Feminist.
[–]Gareth321[M] 4 points5 points6 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This garbage does not belong here.
[–]Phuzzums 4 points5 points6 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Is this some kind of /r9k/ invasion or something? This is mysogynist, hateful garbage. This has nothing to do with men's rights and everything to do with some angry, spiteful person trying to take their problems and blame them on an entire gender. This is the same kind of crap that we denounce when radical feminists post "This is what MRM actually is" posts filled with misandry and hate. It doesn't help with any of the issues men have, it's just meant to incite anger.
[–]dakru 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yep. Actual misogyny (not "omg you said something bad about someone who's a woman") should not be here.
[–]Grapeban 3 points4 points5 points 14 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link
Yes, all us females are total idiots right? We're all just hypocritical asses who want all these "freedoms" when all we really want is to be cared for.
What? Why you calling me a misogynist? All I'm doing is making sweeping and insulting generalisations! I mean, look us women, wanting "a woman for president", who the fuck do we think we are?
And by the way, Marie Curie? All that amazing stuff she found out about radioactivity? Those two Nobel Prizes? Ignore them, because, as everyone who is not a female knows, "Everything useful, that has been invented, up to today, has been thought up by a man."
[–]hardwarequestions 4 points5 points6 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
yeah, it's not a great submission.
[–]Grapeban 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Nice that we agree for once.
[–]hardwarequestions 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
we can agree on that as well.
[–]dakru 5 points6 points7 points 14 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Exactly. I hate posts like this. It's not the female idea of equality, it's the feminist ideal of equality, or at least how it plays out. It's absolutely not all women and it's absolutely not limited to women. I'd say it might be a bit more prevalent among women but I'm not even sure of that.
Shit attacking women, or "females", shouldn't be here. It's common on reddit for someone to cry misogyny way too much, but this is actual misogyny.
[–]Grapeban 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Except I think most feminists are opposed to the idea of men holding the door open for women, and men always paying the bill and stuff like that.
[–]dakru 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I posted recently how I think feminists see getting rid of women's obligations to men as freeing women, but they see getting rid of men's obligations to women as taking away what women deserve. That seems to describe it decently.
Let's take something big like alimony. Do feminists rally against it? I've never heard of it happening. Child support that isn't guaranteed to go to the child, have they rallied against that? Or do they leave it as it is?
Then back to holding the door open, and paying the bill, it's similar. Do they rally against it? I guess I've heard of some getting fierce against door-holding, but not really against paying the bill. It just doesn't register as mattering because in the feminist narrative men are evil oppressors (though some men can be victims too, as long as it's victims of other men, and as long as it's accepted that they're lesser victims than women).
By the way, your post should not be being downvoted like this.
Thanks.
No, I think they do rally against it. The feminist circles I hang around rally against those ideas, they rally against all traditional gender roles.
Well, alimony and child support aren't necesarily things that always go to women are they? And I think the ideas behind them are fair enough, even if the implementation is less than perfect (children and spouses, particularly if the spouse in question was the one who cared for the house ie had no job need financial support).
However, I will admit that courts are biased towards women in providing these things. While those same feminist circles I mentioned earlier are not happy about that (it's tied up in that traditional gender roles thing again), I'll admit that feminism hasn't done as much as it could abou it.
[–]dakru 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I definitely can't say that I haven't encountered feminists that I respected very much and who actually care about men.
But in all my time of living before I heard of MRAs, I'd not even heard most of men's issues given any sort of attention by anyone, let alone even mentioned at all. I knew of slut-shaming but the male version wasn't even a thing (by the way, the popular "male privilege checklist" of feminists explicitly denies there being a male version). There are slut-walks decrying slut-shaming, feminists actually marching against it (which is a fair point, but they also march against some straw man arguments that few people really actually believe), but I've never heard one even mention the male version as existing.
Well, alimony and child support aren't necesarily things that always go to women are they?
No, but the way the legal system works they pretty overwhelmingly usually do.
And I think the ideas behind them are fair enough, even if the implementation is less than perfect (children and spouses, particularly if the spouse in question was the one who cared for the house ie had no job need financial support).
A good argument could be made for support (of the basics, above poverty but nothing luxurious) of an ex-spouse who, due to being a stay-at-home mother/father, has very little ability to find a job, for something like five years (enough time to get a university degree or other training and find a job). But absolutely not the "well the woman's set for a very long time on whatever the man can afford, often and then some, to keep her on whatever "lifestyle she's used to".
While those same feminist circles I mentioned earlier are not happy about that (it's tied up in that traditional gender roles thing again), I'll admit that feminism hasn't done as much as it could abou it.
I'd go a bit further than that myself and say that the ideological environment of feminism encourages the idea that these don't matter because they happen to men, who are never the real victims (I don't know how many times I've had to hear about how a problem for men is really just the smaller side to the real problem, the problem for women).

You do notice that the original poster is a new account and likely a troll. Also, there are just as many down as upvotes and trolls have ways to upvote to no end. Note that the top commenter is also a new account and likely again a troll. This has very little to do with this sub except for the excessive number of trolls and people blaming everyone else here for them.
[–]Grapeban 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yes, I suspected the top comment was a troll (though like many trolls, I find they present interesting oppurtunities for discussion and examining your own views, which is why I don't regret engaging her). But the thing is, this post was being upvoted, though it isn't now I admit (but I still think that bordering on 0 points is still not fantastic, misogyny should really be being downvoted) and that top comment was being upvoted and people were agreeing with her.
Sure, blame all the upvotes on trolls, but all that shows is this subreddit is either filled with trolls or misogynists/ignorant people. These aren't attractive possibilities!
[–]thrway_1000 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
We have plenty of trolls. I'm sure you would be surprised by the number of posts and comments that get removed here. And yes, it's not good that it happens but on an open forum that people assume or try to create the impression that we're filled with hate you have to expect it. Society finds the idea of men's rights at the moment as something bad, so some people try to prove that's the case. Smearing this sub has been a game to many a troll since it's creation. People here just have to deal with that and try to be above the fray. That's my take on it at least, and what I try to do.
[–]Grapeban 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ah well, even if it is filled with trolls, I might as well have fun playing with them.
[–]loose-dendrite 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'd be surprised if OP and LucretiaMRA were NOT the same person. They're both an hour old and agree with each other a lot. This is a troll thread.
[–]Grapeban 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Quite possible. Still, I managed to contextualise my thoughts on why we shouldn't assign qualifiers to being your gender, so I count this as a win.
[–]levelate 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
admittedly, it isn't the best post.
however, fuck you, all you do here is troll. and now you're upset that we are not pandering to you.
again, fuck you.
[–]Grapeban -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link
I'm "upset" (more mildly bemused) because you're (edit: not "you" as in levelate, I am speaking about the subreddit in general, and I see that it is actually starting to balance out now. Apologies for any confusions caused) upvoting misogyny.
[–]altmehere 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I have to admit that I share some of levelate's sentiment. I can understand trying to attack the misogyny in the MRM, but I get the feeling you're not doing it for the benefit of the movement based on the way you do it.
For example, I doubt someone interested in rooting out misogyny to improve the movement would post sincerely on /r/againstmensrights.
Therefore, I have to agree that you're a troll.
I would like to route out misogyny, but I feel it's rather deeply rooted.
And I'll admit I get personal enjoyment out of attacking misogyny.
Happily I can actually accomplish both things, I can try to route out misogyny and enjoy attacking misogynists at the same time.
And the reason I don't agree with being called a troll is, I think all my misogyny call-outs have actually been quite legitimate.
Oh, and the AgainstMR thing, I just really don't like John the Other and AVfM. It's my personal vice/vendetta and I was quite chuffed at having ruffled his feathers, so I had a little dance/comment about it. Hardly mature of me I know, but I do think he's a royal dick.
[–]levelate 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
i didn't upvote anything.
infact, i believe i said, quite clearly, that it was a bad submission.
[–]Grapeban 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Ah, sorry, I didn't mean you specifically, I was talking about the subreddit as a whole. My bad, I apologise and will edit it.
[–]levelate 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
fair enough, apology accepted.

no, they are correct this time.
at the very least there is a much better way of presenting the sentiment this pic is trying to express.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 14 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link
As a woman, I really don't understand feminism at all. Why do they think they need all these things, when they obviously have so much privilege already? We need to go back to the way things were before, when a man could actually be a man without being treated like shit by women.

[–]Grapeban 3 points4 points5 points 14 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link
As opposed to all those fake women?
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Some women really are fake, and from what we see in our society, many of them live just to hurt men.
Not all females are like that, I mean look at all the females who support this sub. We know just how bad society treats men, and we are here to put a stop to that.
[–]Grapeban 3 points4 points5 points 14 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
I don't know what you mean. How can a woman be fake? Because a woman wants to hurt men, that means she isn't a woman now?
There aren't guidelines stating how women must act if they want to be a "real woman" y'know.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
If a woman wants to hurt men, she is not a real woman in my book.
[–]Grapeban 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Right...
What about men who want to hurt women? Are they "fake men"?
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
It doesn't work that way. Some men are bad, some women are bad. I wouldn't call a man a "fake man" just because he wants to hurt women. Some women bring it on themselves.
[–]Grapeban 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Right, so a woman who wants to hurt men is a "fake woman", but a man who wants to hurt women is still a "real man".
And the reason for this is, some women are asking to be hurt.
Interesting. Have you ever come across the idea that women, despite being women, can be misogynistic? Just curious.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
No, the word you are looking for is misandrist. Are you just another feminist, because this is feminist "logic".
[+][deleted] 14 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
[–]dakru 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Why do you think they're more fake and shallow than modern men?
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Especially within feminism. Most feminists are middle class white women, who wouldn't understand struggle if it hit them in the face. Something you will never see a feminist talk about is class struggle, because they know that there are more poor unemployed men than there are women. The mental gymnastics it takes to be a feminist is astounding.
[–]loose-dendrite 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Some feminists do talk about class struggle and some agree with your assessment of mainstream feminism in a big way. Feminists that aren't middle-class white women.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
More unemployed men, more homeless men, more men in prison, more men committing suicide. No wonder feminists never talk about class.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Ok, maybe 4chan hi-lights issues men face and female hypocrisy, but come on. How seriously do you think people will take us if we use 4chan, a place where they show child porn, gore, and God knows what else! We really need to start getting better sources.
[–]dakru 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
4chan is almost as diverse as Reddit. If we're going to lump everything in there with /b/, do we lump everything in here with /r/spacedicks or /r/beatingwomen?
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I know 4chan is diverse and can be credible, but many people don't see it that way. I'm only afraid of r/mensrights being seen as people who find their darker side credible as well. I'm only saying I'd prefer we'd use more positively-viewed sources.
[–]dakru 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That's a fair enough point. It's a shame, though, because 4chan has a lot of content that other sites just don't.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It is a shame.
