I'm against the idea of forcing anyone to have or take care of a child they don't want. At this time we don't have the technology to grow babies outside of a woman's body, and honestly I'm not sure I ever want that technology to exist.

As long as the child is growing inside the woman's body, I don't think forcing them keep it is ethical. It reduces them to a means to an end. I also think that if either parent chooses to vacate their rights to the child they should not be responsible for it. Treating someone as a tool is not ethical in my eyes, nor should it ever be done without major contemplation.

there was a related post to this. Male abortion, if the male doesn't want a kid and the female does then he can have a "male abortion", giving up all legal ties to the child, meaning he has none of the rights or obligations. The women, now fully informed that she would be a single mother in every sense, can now decide if she wants to keep or abort.

As pcarv said I am against anyone having to take care of a child they never wished for, but it is also a womens body and she has the right to choose, especially considering if you force her to keep it then the women goes through pregnancy which isn't all that pleasant.

I take the Ferengi viewpoint--the use of the womb is essentially a lease. If the man doesn't want an abortion when the woman does, he has no options to force her to carry what is obviously an unwanted tenant. If he wants to provide remuneration for the continued occupancy of the fetus, that's a business transaction and you can draw up a contract for it.

Property rights are founded upon the essential right of bodily property; we don't require people to be organ/tissue donors to save the lives of living, breathing humans with names and families and everything; why should women be forced to incubate another potential human against their will? Even if you believe that life begins at conception, your life doesn't demand my sacrifice. Woman's body, woman's choice.

A child should never be an accident. Males should have vasectomies and sperm bank. THat would be true reproductive freedom for both genders. It should become the social norm to shoot blanks.

So there are two choices

The first is the practical choice taken by each parent whether they want to have responsibility for the child. Both have equal right to opt out

The second is the health/ethical question of whether the mother wants to get an abortion, this is her choice alone, to be made in knowledge of her own and the father's decision regarding the first choice.

I think for the time being men should focus on (and receive) most of the benefits women receive when it comes to children.

Sure you can say "pregnancy is such and such" and "having a baby is such and such" but in the end, it's a pretty simple argument. You have two groups, A and B. Group A has a few certain rights that group B doesn't. Group B wants the rights of group A while group A says "don't worry we're working on that" (or sometimes blatantly telling you to go fuck yourself) while advocating for more rights for themselves.

Simply put, if a woman gets pregnant, she has the morning after pill, and if she finds out a month later, she can get an abortion. Even after she's given birth, she still has the choice to give the kid up for adoption with no legal repercussions or future responsibility on her part. So it should only be fair men have the same choice.

After all, when it comes to child support, the state doesn't dictate how much a child costs when people are married, they don't base their minimum wage on it and they certainly don't hold women to the same standards.

So I think men should have the same options without the arguments of "what's best for the child" because both women and feminists sure as hell would have none of it if the "pro-lifers" made the same argument.

Oh and men (like women) should be able to know if it's their child or not after birth.
