This is excessive.

I want to see the sentencing disparity go away as much as anyone, but not like this. No man or woman should do 40 years for statutory rape.

I'm all for gender parity in sentencing. But that's a really massive sentence. If a man was sentenced for 40 years for having "consensual" sex with a 14 year old I think that would also be a little harsh as well, unless there were extenuating circumstances.

I think many convicted murderers, violent rapists, and pedophiles get less.

It's interesting that the article calls what they had a "relationship". In a way, it sort of validates her actions.

After years of seeing female teachers getting a slap on the wrist for abusing their position of trust, I would have thought my sympathy would be tapped out. But this punishment is too extreme by far!

There is no word that Schmieder was abusive or violent, and while underage boys deserve the same protection as girls from adults who prey on them, this one was fourteen years old and seemed to a willing participant.

Can't we find something in the middle that is sensible?

The sentence was handed out after the mother of the young victim spoke of her 'heartache and betrayal' at the loss of innocence of her son and that she struggles daily with what went on.

"We were told by investigators that our 14-year-old was a victim of child molestation. This was horrifying and unbelievable. I prayed that this was not true," she said.

If I was the boy I would never speak with my mother again, not a single word, maybe ask to be adopted or convince my father to divorce this witch.

In MOST European States sex with 14 years old is legal, in the US it is not, I understand that, but sentencing her to 40 years in prison is insane, your society has a sickness of the mind, face the truth.

This seems extreme. A male teacher in a similar case here got maximum two years.
