Do employers discriminate in female-dominated occupations?

employers practice some form of discrimination in ANY occupation. It pisses me off!

He cops out at the end, accepting blindly the wage gap myth. Why did they not do the same experiment in so called male dominated fields and see if women are discriminated against? The findings of the research is incomplete, they have found that men are discriminated against in female dominated fields and mixed fields but not checked to see so called male dominated fields.

Still nice to see some academic variance to the regular dogma.

I found it to be a rather boring and "no shit" type of article. You don't need to do a study to conclude that female servers are more desirable than male servers... I think it's less "discrimination" and more employers just accepting and abiding by developed gender roles prevalent in western society.

And then at the end at the end accepts the wage gap myth... this study focuses on the one end (female and mixed), while not checking to see if male-dominated occupations discriminate against men.

Because it would incorrect to simply assume that because males are discriminated in female-dominated occupations that females would be discriminated against in a male-dominated occupation. Because a lot of gender roles are so deeply engrained in society, male-dominated occupations could likely be the result of simply a higher volume of male applicants. If they performed this study, submitting equal numbers of applications using these "average" applicants, they could maybe uncover something interesting.

However, the study as it is really doesn't tell anything useful or groundbreaking (in my opinion). Though the idea that studies with this line of thought are being conducted is encouraging.

TL;DR: Boring article. Should extend the study to male-dominated occupations. But, still good that there is some academic research on this topic in general.
