What I find rather ridiculous about this whole concept of men "becoming more accustomed to working in the house" is that we repeatedly teach and preach how men should start accepting to sometimes be the stay at home parent, yet, we never teach the opposite. It is NEVER spoken of to tell women that they, in turn, need to be more accepting of a man that does make less than them. If society want's to get rid of gender roles, they need to get rid of all of them, not just the ones that help women. There should be more incentive to teach women to marry a man that is financially beneath you, and not just teach men that it is ok that a woman outearns you.

Another thing I find really annoying about these types of articles is that to me, it alludes to the fact that it is completely acceptable if women become the "men" of the 1950's, in that they can be the breadwinner if they want, but men can't. I'm tired of the "choice" of who does what always relying on what the woman wants. If a man wants to be the breadwinner, well he damn as well should be able to without being labeled a sexist, just like a woman can. Men should be able to choose what they want just like women. I personally don't want to become a househusband, not because I think women should but because I as a person do not want to be dependent. What I plan to do then, is marry a woman who is accepting of that, and have her be the housewife. If you force any woman you marry to do that, that is sexist, but marrying someone who is accepting is fine. Just as if a woman decides "Eh I want to win the most now, you stay at home" or "Eh I don't want to work anymore, now you work" and if the man refuses, he should not be labeled as a sexist or controlling.

Lepore wishes her “biggest supporter” would get more recognition for everything he does at home. When an executive recently told her “having an at-home husband makes it easy for you to be a CEO,” she responded, “no, not easy. He makes it possible.”

I love it that she sees that. Having a SAH spouse doesn't make executive jobs easy. My husband hears that bullshit all the time.

I love it that he sees that. Executives who are parents do not have SAH spouse as a fun accessory. By necessity, either a spouse with a very flexible schedule or a FT paid stranger is running their household and raising their kids while they're out earning the big bucks for 80 hours/week.

I find this article to be objective and careful not to provoke gender inequity issues. It essentially argues that it is OK for husbands to take the SAH role and that is a choice they need to make together with their spouse, for the betterment of their family unit.

In fact, I may make that decision myself some day.

Just wanted to add a non-polarized perspective to what may be an otherwise heated argument over which gender should have more power. This one seems pretty tame to me.

Always a "househusband" but never just a husband. These articles are all the same, snarky and condescending towards men whose wives have better careers. Like this is even such a new concept. It just gets revisited about every 10 minutes so feminist bloggosphere can pat each other on the back. Fuck kids, fuck a wife.

No matter what happens in society, no matter how things change, whenever someone hears that a woman is making the $, they're going to look at the man as somewhat pathetic.

I believe in gender roles, I believe they exist for a reason. Men are acclimated to certain things women are not. We have different bodies, different body chemistry, and different minds. We may be capable of taking up the others roles, but it doesn't mean that's going to be best.

Thank God I found a woman of the same mind who is happy to stay at home with children and be an amazing mother. I'm extremely tired of the arbitrary "anything you can do I can do better" mentality.
