I knew of the men's rights subreddit for quite a while now, but I wanted to ask a question that was geared towards a woman's rights than a mans...

The only case where child support sort of makes sense doesn't even really happen: guy marries woman, willingly has a kid with her, decides to divorce her for reasons that are not at all her fault, and willingly gives up custody of the child to her. That rarely ever happens. Either he never married her, he never wanted a kid in the first place, the divorce was her fault, or he didn't willingly give up custody. In any of those cases, which accounts for 99% of custody battles, child support is wrong. Basically, the only way you can think child support is "right" is if the guy is a total manipulative asshole who hates his wife for no good reason, and just wants to punish her. That's the only reason state-mandated child support could conceivably be necessary. If you're a feminist, you might believe that's common. If you're not an idiot, however, you'll realize that almost never happens. The very concept of child support paid by men assumes men are evil.

Even then, child support is wrong unless it is guaranteed to the child.

And arguably even then the government has no right to interfere.

Again, child support spending needs more accountability attached to it. I think that if both parents have equal custody, then child support should be moot. In the event where shared equal time is impossible and it had better be a verified good reason, then child support can be brought up. At most the child support, should be the increased cost of the child demonstrated through consistent necessary spending. Specialty items should not be includes, only essential items, and not in excess.

As far as after a separation, alimony should be short term only. 5 years at most. Costs for returning to school should be eaten by the parent that is returning. Alimony should be based off the costs of appropriate daycare, and the partner attending school should have to work while attending classes.

The end goal should be that both partners, after separating can go separate ways if need be. If there's a child support should be given based on the ideas mentioned above. While the person is in class, the child should default to the other persons care, unless it can't work with their work schedules.

I don't want anyone driven onto welfare, by a separation.
