My opinion? Hell yes.

Scenario 1:

"As a man who doesn't want a child, I wish to not be held financially (and in all sense of the word, become a slave) responsible for this child."

"Well then you should have kept it in your pants." <----Accepted thing to say in today's society.

Scenario 2:

"As a woman who doesn't want a child, I wish to have the right to abort this child."

"Well then, you should have thought about that before you spread your legs." <----Unacceptable comment. Misogynist.

With an increasing number of single-parent families on the scene, it is perhaps high time that we embraced the idea that every one of us bears responsibility to protect every child. Until such a time, however, biological fathers, and eventually mothers, will be - and probably should be - financially on the line for their offspring.

The willful ignorance that it is the latter (men's obligation to finance) that creates the former (single-mother families) makes me think that Mrs. Colb operates in bad faith, here.

a user in /SRS responded to a post of mine supporting financial abortions by linking this article. the problem is, while the author does arrive at that conclusion, they seem to give no actual justification or evidence for why it should be the case; they just sort of assert it, and then move on to some other notion.

No, men should not be able to financially abort and I'll tell you why. When a woman aborts a fetus it is not yet human. No, fertilized eggs are not human. Sometimes during sex a woman's egg is fertilized, yet it comes out in her next period anyway. Obviously we don't count those as human beings.. same goes for fetuses. However, once the child is born both parents should take responsibility, unless of course they both agree on adoption. Seeing as how females are the primary parents/caregivers, it only makes sense that males are really only worth money... so give it up.

On the other hand I sort of support a man's right to financially abort. It would show the world once and for all that men don't care about anything, including their own children.
