This will get buried, but whatever.

I've dated a decent number of women in my life, and almost invariably there's someone like you. Someone who she knows (believe me, she always knows) is quietly carrying a torch for her. You’re friends, and have been for a while, and she figures you’ll eventually grow out of it, so she pretends to not notice. She doesn’t want to hurt your feelings, after all.

She usually mentions you early in the relationship too. We’ll be on our second or third date, getting to know each other more intimately, and talking about our friends and family. Inevitably she’ll mention you, but always with a caveat. “He’s my BFF” or “He’s like family” she’ll assure me. I’ll tell her not to worry, I trust her.

Sometimes you’re shorter than average, sure, and sometimes a bit chubby, but more often than not you’re just an average guy, just like me. Except you’re afraid. Afraid of being open and honest with your feelings, afraid of rejection, and most of all terrified of just letting this sham of a friendship die, because you know it’s all you’ve got.

My favorite part, though, is the day you stop by, knock on her door to pick her up (you were going to lunch, or meeting friends for a study group, whatever) and I answer the door. And you know I just fucked her. I love it. The way your eyes meet mine, and I tell you, “She’s just in the shower. We had a late night” and give you a knowing wink. It’s the best part of my day.

Lady here =] Yes, girls dates skeezes far too often. I think the problem is kinda that girls don't want a "desperate" guy, or one that comes off as desperate. So those guys that fall kinda fast for a girl can easily be labelled as desperate ("There has to be something wrong with him if we've only known each other for x amount of time and he already wants to be in a relationship...").

This generally leads to girls going for the douche bags that don't come easy/ appear desperate. Is it okay? I don't know. Probably not. But that's my opinion. Though I heart the good guys =]

In short it boils down to women want to be with men who have power- power to provide for them when it (if) comes round to child rearing and the brood, power to calm them down, power to replicate surrogate daddy roles, power to be just like our collective hero on the billboards, TV screens, magazine covers (never mind the high jinks orchestrated marketing machine that are really only interested in moving products and capitalizing on your inertia and insecurities- blah).

This is really true - and as corny as it sounds, I really believe that media has set womens expectations for men very high.

Hmm nice guys are few and far in between but they are definitely out there, and by 'nice guy' I mean a man who is respectful, honest, not violent, not manipulative and is faithfull. Allthough I have had my fair share or absolute dickheads, my general niceness has finally attracted another nice person. :) Patience is key! And yes women are attracted to power but a person can be nice and have power/dominance aswell.
