The article writer is pretty kooky herself: pretending that parental alienation doesn't exist, and is only something abusive men have come up with to get away with abusing their children. Yeah, right.

Whether it should be a syndrome or not is one question. But it shouldn't have to be one in order for people to realize that yes, you can poison a child against a parent (especially a young child), and yes, it does happen regularly in divorces involving high-conflict individuals.

A child is 100% dependent on its parents, and instinctively knows it. It is extremely difficult (and painful) for a child to form a belief strongly at odds with one parent's. When one parent has the belief that the other is a demon, a slob and a criminal mastermind all in one, the child has to either go that hard path, or accept that belief as its own.

Some guy did an AMA a while back if I remember. He grew up hating his father and one day he decided to call him and tell him he's a jerk of a father for never paying child support and being so distant.

His dad said he never missed a payment and was alienated by his mom. The young man did some research, fact checking, and sleuthing. He discovered his father did more than he ever knew because the mom kept EVERYTHING for herself. Him and his father are best friends now that the truth came out. It was hard to read because it seemed like the OP had a great father, but was never given the opportunity to see him.

Some one find it for me damnit.

I see no reason not to classify it as a disoder. The child has the disorder, the mother causes it, as with most disorders, and another person pays the price.

It assumes that one crazy person (the mother) brainwashes a second crazy person (the child) into telling lies about a third person (the father)

The theory is actually without sex roles despite what the article says.

indoctrination by the other parent (almost exclusively as part of a child custody dispute) and the child's own attempts to denigrate the target parent (wiki)

This article is less about PAS and more of a hit piece trying to discredit it.

Just about everyone I know who is the child of divorced parents has experienced PAS, most often with the mother being the perpetrator. Considering PAS is really just another form of (emotional) child abuse this doesn't surprise me.

Okay, a single issue that struck me before most others is the aspect of PAS is a compounded disorder. The elements researched are normally small parts. Whatever they say about the research, the issue of it being non-scientific raised (and concurrently associating its terminology with discredited campaigns, i.e. climate denialism) only give emphasis to a lack of synthesis on the parts of advocates. Each contributing factor is what joins together to create a syndrome. So all I really am saying is that the real denial is on trying to determine the tentative links validity and discrepancies. There are some glaring biases rearing their heads here.
