I really really hate this kind of politicizing of research. The state of the Y chromosome is biochemically very interesting, but it has nothing to do with who is "superior", men or women.

Calling a chromosome "tough" or a "wimp" is unbelievably stupid -- especially when such claims are veiled attacks or defenses of the sex itself.

The mutation rate or number of genes or size of the X chromosome vs. the Y chromosome have absolutely nothing to do with the respective values of the sexes. Making claims like "the X chromosome is better than the Y" or "the Y is becoming obsolete" is unscientific and silly.

It's sad to me that "the women in the audience enjoyed the talk more than the men did" because this author is clearly playing gender games with her research to get exposure in mainstream media.

Don't pay any heed to such claims.

TL;DR Scientifically, such claims are nonsense, so nobody get butthurt over this!

The "end of the Y chromosome" is a myth that was debunked several years ago. The Y chromosome is unique in that it "self repairs" rather than relying on its paired chromosome. See this article.

I find it funny that she looks at how the male chromosome mutates quickly and see that as a down side. It is the advanced male ability to mutate and create genetic variance that makes it so we don't go extinct or all die of the same disease within two generations. This is why you see men at both ends of the bell curve instead of grouped together like the female herd. Women are more alike than men, that is why the herd mentality is so strong within them while men favor individualism, in action and mind.

I saw some studies awhile back that compared the male Y chromosome of humans to monkeys/apes. Most have heard about how humans only differ from monkeys by 2% but this is based on comparing the X chromosome of humans and monkeys. When you compare the Y chromosome it is closer to a difference of ~50%. Let me see if I can dig up the study.

EDIT: Men are 30% different from simions and women only ~2% different....Men are more evolved than women.

The idea that the Y chromosome will one day end in human beings is a stupid one.

Both the XX and XY are necessary for sexual reproduction to take place.

It's true that if humans didn't have the Y chromosome men would not exist... but neither would women. If we reproduced asexually then human beings would be a asexual race... and no higher life forms are solely asexual. Asexual life forms only get their genes from one parent and this means that evolution is slowed down so much that it is not possible to adapt to new niches in any significant way.

Fucking gloating backwards shit. If a male researcher took this view about XX he'd be chased out of science by feminists.
