What was the protected class stuff? We are supposed to be equal when one side falls under protection of some sort. Wouldn't fair an equal be like: "Alright everyone fends for themselves"?

Yes, she's paid less. The reason? She doesn't know, so it may or may not be discrimination.

There was no harassment that she described. Being treated like the office gopher (get me some files, etc.) is not harassment, and also not illegal.

No one at the office likes you? That's not illegal. So no, a complaint is not warranted unless the pay discrepancy is because of discrimination. She has no idea if that's true as she hasn't asked.
