I thought that Whoopi was chuckling as she said that he was the "face of male reproductive rights" so I was expecting her and the rest of the women to dismiss the concept. To my suprise she held her ground and defended the concept of promises to men being worth something.

IMO this argument always gets muddled to a great degree whenever I've seen it come up. Here's how I see it, plain and simple. A woman should be able to give birth if she's pregnant without the permission of the father. It's her body, and that's her choice. But a man should not be obligated to pay any child support to the mother, even if he promised that's what he would do if he got her pregnant.

The reason I feel this way is because women can decide not to financially support their own child after they give birth to it, so why can't men? A woman can leave her child on a firehouse doorstep or turn it over to the state at birth without ever even telling the father she was pregnant if she wants to, and in both of these cases she will not be obligated to pay any child support at all. If a woman has this right to opt out of her child's life after birth in exchange for being free from any financial commitments, why don't men have the same option?

I think when you look at this argument from this perspective you take the whole abortion element out of it. If a woman wants to have an abortion, she has the right to do so. If she wants to have the child, she also has the right to do so. The financial obligations of each parent, however, that is an entirely different argument, and just bringing abortion into it totally muddles up the real debate.

thank you Whoopi , I cant believe the women were having this discussion only a few months ago, see them make no comments when whoopi mentions promises in a relationship. And WTF does "as a woman" mean?

A father should only owe child support if he does not want custody. If he wants custody, he should be able to keep his money... all of it.
