So we have a heroine who leaves her family to pursue what she believes is right and try to restore her parent's farm. She spends half her life away from home to make this sacrifice, missing the children growing up, and important occassions, to pursue her dream. The family cheers at her successes as she rises to the top of the horse world as Secretariat wins race after race, eventually winning the triple crown. At the end of the movie they pan to Penny Chenery as she's glowing, fade to credits. The whole time I'm watching this I'm thinking, when she leaves the family to pursue her dream she's called a hero, if her husband did the same thing it'd be called abandonment.
