What pay equity means: Nurses (95% women) sue to get paid the same as doctors; win on the basis of "discrimination". Why bother going to med school? Just become a nurse in a fraction of time and expenses, then sue.

I am a male nurse, so I do have an interesting perspective. I have two bachelors degrees, one in biology and one in nursing. I had thought of going into medicine, but really, I could get paid fairly close to a physician's salary with less risk of liability and less time and money spent on education if I go on as a nurse practitioner. Look at the rate of med school applications over the past few years. Even worse, look at the number of med school graduates that go into primary care (I think it is now less than 3%)

In my opinion crap pay, crap hours, expensive schooling, and huge liability are destroying healthcare.

In this case they are doing the same work as the doctors.

Although they have for years done virtually identical work as a small group of doctors who work in the same department, the nurses are not recognized as health professionals, are paid about half as much as the doctors and receive substantially different benefits and training allowances.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that in normal cases doctors and nurses get the same pay.

So according to this article, in Canada, a nurse is doing the same job as a doctor. Makes sense!

The article said they were doing the same work as the doctors. If this is true, something was very wrong. And if it was true, they were either underpaid or the doctors were overpaid.

Although I'm taking it with a grain of salt that they did the same work unless I hear more details about that.

Doctors shouldn't be paid as much... I went to an ear nose throat doctor once, and was charged $415 just for someone to look inside my throat and see < 10 minutes of his banter just to hear the upsell of having my tonsils remvoed... cures everything.

this is an extreme case. As a feminist this makes me mad because it makes people who want pay equality seem like petty whiners. The face remains that woman with equal education and training are paid on average 78 cents too the dollar of their male peers.
