I went to see the movie "Minari". It is a film about a Korean family. The man of the family is your typical dream-chaser, and sees no issue putting his children's futures at risk to achieve his own goals.
It's a beautifully made film, though relentless in its portrayal of life for many women. It did not exactly portray the LVM in the worst light, in fact many such movies encourage the viewer to look down on the "nagging wife", when her wants and needs were never part of the picture, and she is worried for her children. I am sure you would all balk at the LVM's actions in a similar manner that I did.
Solid watch, if not a little frustrating as there is no real relief.
Even as their house was burning down in front of their very eyes, the man cares more about losing his crops than his mother-in-law, and when his wife comes to help and almost succumbs to the smoke while doing so, he does not make real effort to guide them to safety. While I understand that living in nature is good for the heart, and thereby potentially had a hand in bettering his son's heart condition, it is clear this was not his motivation to move the family there. In fact, he moved them to a place far away from access to medical care, and the mother is understandably upset.
