"Manosphere" is also used by the large blogging community on men's issues that's been around for more than a decade. While obviously "manosphere" is not entirely synonymous with the MRM, there is a slight bit of overlap with MRAs and other men's issues oriented groups. The problem is that the hack journalists don't care for nuance on these things and just want to conflate it all together with a broad brush while focusing mostly or solely on the worst elements they can find.
It isn't a previous use, it's still the unchanged unflinching use of the name as used by its participants and contributors. It's what that community has always called itself.
