It's ridiculous that men are expected to spend a significant portion of their pay for a piece of jewelry whose value is an artificial creation in order to "prove his love".
A woman who realizes that this is nonsense and doesn't extort a wedding ring, that is a woman who proves that she truly loves her partner. A wedding rings represents that a man's job is provide for his wife, a misandrist idea that makes no sense in era where women have higher earning potential than men. It's the embodiment of systematic oppression, that a man is a financial resource to his wife
