I'm seeing more and more of this: feminists using "mansplaining" accusations to deal with being publicly proven wrong

Masculinity and femininity aren't toxic. Trying to push these ideas that they are is just childish gender war BS. This article reads exactly like a feminist hit piece on men but for women.

It's sham journalism, petty, and embarrassing.

Exactly. There are toxic people. Masculinity or femininity are not inherently toxic.

I find some value in the terms, to be honest. Men and women tend to be toxic in different ways. When a man is toxic, he’s usually straightforwardly aggressive (either verbally or physically). When a woman is toxic she is usually deceptive, manipulative and passive-aggressive. These are generalities of course, but they have some use for me.

Masculinity is the characteristics of males. Femininity is the characteristics of females. Having the characteristics of your sex isn’t toxic. What is toxic is calling masculinity or femininity toxic.

Meh.

Men behave badly sometimes and should be held accountable for that. Women also behave badly sometimes and likewise they should be held accountable for that.

The second sentence is the one that feminists object to so strongly. They always try to eliminate accountability for women and deflect it onto men instead. It needs to be called out more often; I don't care what terminology is used.

I’d agree with that. However saying “toxic masculinity” makes it sound that “masculinity” is toxic, which is probably why it’s become such a popular phrase with the feminists. I think we should be careful about using such sweeping terms.

She sighed. “Yeah, everyone tells me that.” Then she stared at him, like she was waiting for him to do better. They broke up a few weeks later. She said he wasn’t ready for a mature relationship. This woman had been through some of her own tough relationships. She’d been dumped by rich, successful CEO types who used her for sex but never quite felt she was good enough to enter their social world.

I can't help but notice that the author, even as she's pretending to acknowledge how toxic women can be, still managed to put blame on men for this woman's behavior.

Can it be that her "rich, successful CEO types" dumped her because she was...exactly what the author described her to be...nah, it was just that they 'used her for sex'. She manages to be both sex negative and a toxic femininity apologist in one sentence. She appears to be trying, trying pretty hard, to be eyes open objective about toxic female behavior, but still let's "it's a mans fault" slip in.

Perfect example of female logic. Is talking about a friend whose girlfriend of nearly a year had been talking to her “abusive” ex for their entire relationship daily, without informing him she was in another relationship…

To his credit, my friend didn’t get upset. He tried to figure out what the ex-boyfriend was providing that he wasn’t.

So the “correct” response is find out what he was doing wrong, not what she was doing wrong.

Exhibit A why I no longer date

"Toxic Masculinity" is literally ANYTHING that Feminists don't like about Men. Instead of trying to police men, they need to police themselves.

If both genders can be toxic, it's almost like it's more about who you are as a person and there's no reason to gender it...

[–]reddut_gang 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No. Surely that can't be it. Surely it's all men's fault. Every single one of them. They are the reason my gender studies degree wont get me a job.
