I was just talking to a guy online today, and he was just so clingy and co-dependent, but he couldn't or wouldn't use his words and just SAY what he wanted. I told him straight up, I'm so happy living alone. I'm not dating, have not tried to date the last five years after becoming widowed. I've been there, done that with marriage, having done it twice for 25 years. I'm up for fun companionship, separate houses, separate finances, since I'm an older woman with assets to protect. You're not competing against any other man; you're competing against my love of solitude, silence, and my own company. And when I asked him, so what do you offer that's better than my own peace? He couldn't answer.

It made me realize I require someone with my own level of absolutely top-notch level of vocabulary and communication skills, and nothing less will ever do. One of the millions of reasons I loved my HV late husband: this man was a UCLA English professor; he had a PhD. He had a razor sharp mind, recognized my sharp mind, and our 17 year marriage was an unending conversation. Absolutely nothing less will ever do than a man who can truly communicate, loves to talk AND listen, and who is mutual and reciprocal. I've met me. I know what I like, and what I don't. Any man who wants to be with me must know himself, also.
