If one person in the separation/divorce has a lot of stocks.. that are worth say a million or more.. I know they are split in half.. what ever is vested if I understand correctly. If that half gives the lower income a good chunk of money in the bank.. does it affect alimony.. in terms of monthly pay as well as duration? I would think that if my SO gets a 500K or more in money from stock I earned.. due to the half split thing.. that I shouldn't have to pay her much if any alimony, right? Like.. isn't that way more than enough money (on top of her salary which is enough to live on comfortably but still half of mine)? Or do they not count that at all and I am still going to get stuck paying her loads of money for 10+ years (22 year marriage)?
