Why do a lot of women never take off their makeup in public?

Insecurity.

The downside of beauty treatments is that they can become so excessive that the woman doesn't like the way she naturally looks without them.

This can be weave, lashes and makeup.

Little by little their self esteem begins to hinge on these things and then they feel ugly or naked without them. Women who always wear makeup have anxiety about going out without it.

It's okay to like it. But I also think it's weird to never see a person without this extra shit

You're not the only one, a bunch of men prefer no makeup. Or at least they say they do online lol.

I don't own makeup, last time I had to wear some was 10th grade for picture day. Idk, mom dolled me up, I've never even put it on myself.

Most women will say they either enjoy putting on makeup for themselves, or their job is old-fashioned and requires it as "hygiene" from female staff. To which I'd say get that rule changed because it's sexist, but whatever. If people everywhere expect it of them, it makes sense they'd feel weird without it on.

They are plenty of women who don't wear makeup at all.

I highly doubt most women are sleeping in makeup you're going to be getting blemishes and not moisturizing your skin when it needs it. I barely wore any makeup during the pandemic but I've also been been busy in life where I just didn't care.

If someone asked my for a picture without makeup on I'd think they were a wierdo and not send them one though.

30 years ago going out in public without your face on was seen as just plain sloppy. Depending on your job it was often a requirement.

My first instinct is to say insecurity, but there is also left over societal expectation in some circles.

I remember when I first started reading MRA stuff online (2000). Going to class without makeup on, dressed in hoddies etc was a very common complaint regarding modern young women.
