A friend set me up with a good guy friend (31M) of her's and absolutely vouched for his character -- however, she did give me a caveat that she doesn't know what he's like in a dating context and that he's "not the greatest texter."
He was extremely responsive on the first day of texting, but by day 3 he took over 24 hours to respond with no apology and/or reasonable excuse. In my attempt to match energy, I texted back the following night. We were literally in the middle of making plans and I didn't hear back until Sunday night (3 days later), although he did apologize this time for the delayed response, explaining that he had been busy visiting family out of state. In earlier texts, he had mentioned he'd be out of town for a few weeks and had also acknowledged that he's not especially proud of his texting skills.
If this was OLD, I would've stop responding at the first sign of a delayed response. I'm a firm believer in "If he wanted to, he would." I was really close to calling things off and telling him that the lack of responsiveness was a dealbreaker, and that I felt like my time/energy wasn't being valued.
However, I really trust the judgment of the mutual friend who set us up (aka he's already been partially vetted) and am debating whether or not to give him a chance and see if things are different in person?
tl;dr getting set up but the guy sucks at texting; is that grounds to call things off or should I be open to meeting him in person?
