And they say male are entitled.

to be shot.

To wade through knee deep mud and shit in a trench, surrounded by bloated corpses infested with maggots, while you hear the yells of the wounded still on the battlefield, the never ceasing gunshots ringing in the air, the horrific smell of decomposition and body odor.

While your wife gets railed by Tyrone in an air conditioned apartment while complaining about how ‘oppressed’ she is.

of course not. that would be equality.

[–]OldEgalitarianMRA 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

According to what the Nation Coalition for Men, who brought the case for draft equality the rad fems from NOW and the ACLU were onboard. There was just two groups MRA's and Rad fems so there was no public outcry. In fact in one poll I saw thousands of women voted to not include women in the draft.

My point it that to pass legislation like draft equality we need to show we have thousands of supporters. It will take time but that is something we have and is free.

Or SCOTUS should have just ruled the male only draft unconstitutional.

[–]rabel111 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Destroys their credibility as leaders.

[–]TitanicPat 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ahh, at its root, this is another one of those inescapable privileges that favor women. So therefore will be redefined, bent and reframed to escape acceptance.

[+]neverXmiss -10 points-9 points-8 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

On this front, anybody who voluntarily joins should be able to. Draft not in play ATM.

Because honestly you are comparing somebody for forced to join vs voluntarily joined, should be at least equal opportunity for said title, no?

These aren't mutually exclusive. Not getting your point

[–]WoodTrophy 24 points25 points26 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

While it is not mutually exclusive for the position referring to the woman in the article, women serving in military leadership and not being drafted are 100% mutually inclusive. There are plenty of women that are NCOs and Officers, roles that can go to combat areas during wars, which is exactly what a draft is for: fighting a war.

[+]Oblivious_Indian_Guy -7 points-6 points-5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You can just remove the "leadership roles" from the sentence and it still rings true. Women can serve but cannot be drafted. I'm not seeing why there's an emphasis on leaders here. Every able bodied person should have to register.

[+]FutureCombinations1 points 4 years ago* [recovered] (20 children) | Copy Link

We don't have a draft. It was ended in 1973.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points27 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

The draft has only been abolished on paper. It can be reinstated with the stroke of a pen as soon as the need arises. There's no real difference.

[–]WoodTrophy 17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If the draft was to totally end, there wouldn’t be a selective service, which only purpose is to prepare for a draft. So I agree.

[+]pennywise1235 -9 points-8 points-7 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

The Selective Service is a draft in name only. It has no teeth as a political tool to wield. Neither party, nor any third rate idiot has the ability or political capital to spend on a reactivating a draft within American society.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The ability comes with the need. If the US is ever involved in another large scale war, the draft will get reinstated.

[+]pennywise1235 -10 points-9 points-8 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Ok, let’s do the math. With the active duty forces, the reserve components, the various national guard units, and those in the IRR who are subject to recall, not to mention the huge veteran pool to draw from, the US has a few million men and women in play at any point. Now, having been an all volunteer military force since 1973, our armed forces are unique in that it’s been widely accepted that a draft is as unnecessary as it would be unpopular.

So, with all that being said, if a military conflict or whatever the hell they call a war these days were to be so devastating for our military that the previously mentioned forces have been virtually destroyed, and a draft is being discussed in earnest, then the situation has grown beyond the point where a national draft is something that will considered at all. Feeding one’s’ self and not dying at the hands of the Grand Emperor of Duluth, Minnesota will be a common problem.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Look at Ukraine for instance. You can't just continue to live in your city as if nothing has happened. You either fight, or you abandon everything you cared for.

[+]pennywise1235 -11 points-10 points-9 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I’m confused. Are you saying that current conflict in Ukraine is an example that supports your opinion?

[–]WoodTrophy 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Why do we have to register for the Selective Service System then?

[+]FutureCombinations1 points 4 years ago* [recovered] (9 children) | Copy Link

You made a point about the draft specifically. I was responding to that.

Still no draft.

[–]WoodTrophy 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

That wasn't me, but it is entirely relevant because the whole point of the Selective Service System is to re-instate a draft. Women don't have to sign up for this, hence, women cannot be drafted.

[+]FutureCombinations1 points 4 years ago* [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

Again. I don't care. Have a good one.
