Throughout the 4 years of separation and divorce, my ex has repeatedly used the threat of co-parenting counseling against me. Any time we disagree she threatens that coparenting counseling will give her full custody of the children. I would blow this off because I know that she doesn’t want CPS looking into her home, we have copious evidence that shows neglect and abuse from her. Recently we got a court order for coparenting counseling due to my second oldest overdosed on pain meds.
We did the first session of coparenting counseling today. This was a nightmare. I didn’t have high expectations to start with, but the craziness started almost immediately.
She started out with low key insults by suggesting that I was “forcing” her to stay in our area because she doesn’t have family here. Then playing the single mom “life is hard” card whenever questioned about her passive aggressive comments. Then acusing me of cheating on her because I started dating after we separated. I corrected her at every turn.
Once she realized that I wasn’t going to let her bad mouth me and imply that I was horrible; she became overtly aggressive. Still claiming to be the victim in all of this.
I called out all of her lies as she tried to weave this false narrative about how oppressive life together was. Then demanding that she should be the one who approved on who I married. Claiming to be the victim because I remarried and she wasn’t invited to anything to do with the wedding. She further went on a rant about how I should set up meetings for her and my wife. She is saying all of this even though she has threatened my wife with violence and continues to spread rumors and lies about her.
This session was 2 hours after we got out of a family session where my 15 year old daughter recently overdosed (while mom encouraged her to take more). During that session I found out that my EX punishes the children when they disagree with her. Literally takes phones away and restricts them to the home for a week because they disagree with her opinions. Opinions like, where to eat, what is nice weather, and if a temp of 101° is too high of a fever. (<— all real examples.) The ex claims that none of this is punishment, it is just “encouraging the child to think right.”
Even though this is me ranting…
Have any of you experienced something like this? Your ex going from passive to overtly aggressive under the pretense of doing what is best for the children?
