Getting ready to pull the trigger as I've had enough. No children, 8 year marriage. Shes dragging her feet all of a sudden and I suspect it is to hide finances (she's the higher earner). Need advice on the following;

1.How is personal debt treated in a divorce? I know savings need to be declared and shared - what happens to credit cards and personal loans?

2.If a car (asset) was purchased using a personal solo loan still being paid off what happens?

3.Consulted a solicitor who advised I get them to file the divorce on my behalf rather than doing it myself online. The reason was it prevents errors which may cause delays. The thing is this will cost me £1000 on top of the filing fee which I find very high. Solicitor stated that in the divorce application you can stipulate the other side pay the costs of filing so my payment to them would be recovered. Is this true - my court fee and solicitor fee for filing would be recovered from her?

  1. Solicitor has fixed fee option for working out finances "including first hearing". This works out at £4500. Is this a good deal?

  2. We've had 1 initial mediation session and solicitor recommends stopping it as pointless since finances are going to be contentious and she's been dragging her feet anyway so will probably try to stretch it out. Thoughts?

Thanks all.
