There is a growing trend of identifying young men and boys who have disengaged from strongly anti-male school and social media environments and seek refuge in gaming, as potential agents of extreme white masculinity (ooohhh, terrifying).

This demonising of white masculinity, associating it with some imaginary well organised endemic right wing extremist movement, is not new. But now experts in Australia are targeting young boys who do not conform to approved social norms of female liberation and male adherence to strict emasculated gender roles.

What's potentially radicalising people toward the far right is the subculture of anti-male prejudice that's putting up posters and making outspoken statements which (to put it very, very mildly) imply blame of all men for things they absolutely haven't done.

There is a huge arrogance implicit in a point of view that does that and seeks to tell people how they should react to it. Apparently people shouldn't feel blamed. Personally I think it's inevitable that a large number of people will feel blamed - quite reasonably - and that it's going to create profoundly right-leaning backlash, no matter how much people wag their fingers and tell young men that they're just not allowed to feel that way about it and they're bad people for doing so.

They are allowed to feel that way about it, and they will, and there's nothing that anyone can do about that.

I don't want that to happen any more than she does - we don't want to encourage real, actual prejudice against women - and I think that one of the main agents doing that is is, with searing irony, this sort of hardline feminist rhetoric.

One of my former classmates immigrated to Australia with her husband and kid. She was soo happy and prod, boasted about beautiful life there. Then once they returned without trumpets and welcome party and never spoke about Australian life any more.

Why "white masculinity"? My gaming friends are all mixed ethnicities. In fact the majority of the gaming communities I've ever been a part of have never been predominantly white. It's always been "are you horrible at the game? Are you a piece of shit? If you answered 'no' to both questions then welcome to the community."

I hate the demonizing of "whiteness", there's nothing wrong with being a person of any skintone. Assholeness is entirely individualized.

It shows the absolute need to control men's behavior. Any space where males can spend their time not doing what women decide they should do is a threat. Playing video games is largely a retreat from the stifling, unfulfilling real world where guys are continually told to be ashamed of being guys. Soon, they won't even be allowed that. Why would they, when it takes away from time that could be spent running errands and doing chores around the house and sitting on the couch pretending to enjoy watching rom-coms and reality shows?

Gamers are one of the most inclusive groups. Like all other hobby groups skill or good ideas/discussion js the most important. Are there jerks? Yes, anonymity makes some people jerks. Are some groups excluded? No, in fact simping also exists online but obviously the "I am a girl 8 excpet special treatment" people are ridiculed
