It seems like the majority of stories are women getting angry that socially inept men can't read their minds. If you choose to not DIRECTLY let someone know you aren't interested then you have no one to blame but yourself when they can't read your mind. IF you reject them directly and then they keep bothering you that's a whole different story BUT 90% of these NeckBeard stories would be over right away if the girl was just honest upfront. As it is MOST of these stories are just dumb girls expecting socially awkward men to read their minds and getting angry when they can't and complaining about it online. In almost all of these stories it's the GIRLS who are the villains, talking about socially stunted people online behind their backs or to their friends for not living up to their unrealistic mind reading standards. I used to think the stories were funny and I would listen while playing CoD but the more I listened, the more upset I became. I just can't really listen to them anymore. It's honestly pretty f***** up. They are basically just subreddits for people to make fun of socially awkward people. I just can't imagine how hurtful that would be if the so called "neckbeards" were to somehow find out how they were being portrayed online. Like to find out this girl you had a crush on was disgusted by you and making fun of you the whole time. That would scar for life! I feel like the neck beard stereotype in general is harmful. It's taking things that are primarily hobbies or interests of men and turning them into a joke or something to be ashamed of. Like swords or video games or D&D. Swords are cool! Video games are fun! I'm in a sword fighting group (it's not fencing we basically build our own swords with PVC pipe and padding and then build armor and shields too) with my husband and his friends and I LOVE it! I had never done any fighting before hand or anything but I agreed to try it and I love it! It's a hobby now! But because I'm a girl no one has ever made fun of me and I wasn't looked down on for enjoying it and people would think it's cool and want to know more and want to try it out for themselves. But the second my husband were to bring it up suddenly he's a "neckbeard". The whole neckbeard stereotype reeks of sexism.
