It's more of an "easily influenced by marketing that appeals to a fragile ego" gap.

Meh, but they try the same thing on men too.

Research says if you try to convince the customer that the product was somehow tailored for their use they are more likely to buy it, even if they have no idea precisely how it was supposedly tailored for them.

And it's not so much that women are dumb and fall for it more easily as that men don't see themselves as special or "worth it". Nobody markets to men by saying "because you're worth it". Men know they're not worth it.

You market to men by saying their wife / girlfriend is "worth it".

Nah, there are reasons for women to take more calcium then men (it's not a vitamin I know, but it's normally present in those "multis")

I don't see Ca mentioned in the women's ones.

There's like 100 of them all with a different label slapped on them.

More iron can be in some women's vitamins and less in men's - as iron is a metal, can be toxic in high doses, and can cause constipation that men just don't need, but women menstruate and may likely need it - plus biotin gets marketed to us in percentages in the thousands saying it gives us luxurious hair, nails, and skin, but that high amount is necessary for no one

But yes your right about all of this and it falls in the same category as beauty - women will pay any dollar about for certain printed words period

There's men's vitamins out there too.

We should protest for equal vitamin rights

Here's a link for MEN'S Multivitamin

Not a big issue but it's interesting to notice the difference. I get women on average need more iron as they often get cold quicker, but I'm not sure why the emphasis on women.

[–]Schadrach 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Slightly different nutritional needs, for example women are more susceptible to calcium loss causing weaker bones, so you'd expect a women's multi to have extra calcium.

[–]manicraccoon 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women's multi vitamins usually have more iron. Which a healthy man doesn't need excess of.

So I don't think have something tailored to gender specific needs is sexist. Also multi vitamins for men exist.

This is just a marketing ploy to make more money. You aim the vitamins at women and sell a bigger jar, probably with the same amount of pills, which ultimately costs more.

[–]OnThatSigmaGrindset 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

didn't you know? when a man takes women's multivitamin, he immediately disintegrates

[–]koksomil12XD 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

how to make money out of naive people. slap a higher price tag on a same product, with a different name.

The pill tax (like the pink tax)

[–]fatbitchonline 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

this is a marketing strategy. it’s actually more about getting women to buy it rather than leaving men out. women are more likely to get things that are “meant” for them, even if there’s no difference between the female and male counterparts. for example, women’s and men’s razors. same shit but women’s cost more because women are more likely to buy a product that’s targeted to them. this is more about corporate greed than anything. it’s scummy as hell
