That thread from Ask Feminists showed up on my main feed and OP's post is literally my response to it as well..

The double standards at play here are astounding..
Men should hold other men accountable for 'misogynistic attitudes' and not let them hide behind the defense of "Its just a joke"

But women aren't willing to hold women who have misandric attitudes or use #KillAllMen and hide behind the defense of "Its just a joke" accountable..

I read through some of the comments in the linked sub.. but I feel like If I go and read them again I might give myself an hernia..

Bullies love the "It's just a joke" defense. You say something like "There's nothing funny about a call for genocide and you know it" Or "There's nothing funny about hate" or "Does #killallwoman sound funny to you?"

And thank you so much for countering the female voices of hate. Those are basically the only female voices men hear. The fact that I only hear hate from women can't help but to make me wonder if women are just horrible people.

I actually don't see a problem with the "it's just a joke" defense.... however, it's extremely clear when things are said for the sole purpose of humor & when things are said as a sort of "social point".

When these women say "Kill All Men", they are clearly not "joking". It's not meant to make people laugh. It's not meant as satire or even dark humor. It's meant to convey the point that men are absolute scum & the world would be better off without them. Do I believe these women genuinely want to "kill all men"? Most would probably not, no. But making a hyperbolic statement isn't the same as trying to be funny.

When I say something like "it's been a hundred years since I last experienced this", that's obviously a hyperbole. Doesn't mean I say this with the goal of making people laugh. I say it with the goal of making people understand how long it's been.

"Kill All Men" is exactly the same. They all know it's NOT a "joke" & has never been used as a joke. Same with "men are trash". They genuinely mean it.

Whereas when you get the typical "get back to the kitchen" stuff, that is basically always used in a comedic context. And the reason why stuff like that CAN be funny, is because the person saying it is actually making a joke at THEIR OWN expense... because only an idiot would actually say something as deluded & restrictive as that. It is an obviously absurd command.

It's not like men use that phrase after writing about how awful women are... like: "women are ruining the world & destroying society with their constant whining. #GoBackToTheKitchen"

Yeah, NO ONE says that. Women on the other hand, constantly say things like that about men & end with "#KillAllMen".

If women want to make "sexist jokes" about men, they are more than welcome to do so, but they shouldn't be so dishonest as to conflate genuine, UNIRONIC bigotry with "jokes" just because it's convenient.

I think seeing as its been acceptable for a very very long time to make misogynistic jokes and to some extent it still is, holding women accountable for misandrist jokes shouldn't be your highest priority.

Now, obviously misogyny in the past doesn't justify misandry today, but I think the amount of jokes I hear about women being dishwashers even today is far greater than the number of men are trash or kill all men jokes and very rarely are these pushed back on.

These types of jokes, while being not great, are not a major example of extreme misogyny or misandry in our society and there are far greater issues one can spend energy arguing about. Especially since calling out every single slightly offensive joke is realistically not possible

I think of turning the snake upon it self. Use their own standard to show the double standard they are inflecting. Such as words are violence, or . . . or if a man was to write the same thing only writing the words as a female - what would the perception be. #doublestandard.
