Men aren’t going to be there for women in traditional ways and most feminists I know are losing their $hit over it.

Double think, decry male violence and toxic masculinity, but get wet when men fight over them.

[–]Alarming_Draw 75 points76 points77 points 4 years agolocked comment (4 children) | Copy Link

Thought experiment for the women defending his actions.

Would they still defend him had it been a female comedian he slapped for the joke?

(We all know the answer, but throw this at them and watch them struggle)

And if they claim "well its not the same because Rock is stronger"-remind them Rock is actually fucking TINY, and Smith is not and has had BOXING training from professionals....

One minute feminists are shouting that "all women are physically equal to men and female athletes should get equal pay to male ones".

The next they're playing the 'women aren't as strong as men' card.

Feminists are nothing but hypocrites every time it suits them.

but to really watch them short circuit, drop this one:

  • how about a FTM comedian?

Not Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Chris Rock. He's more like 5'9" and less than 200 lbs.

[–]boringcarpets 1 point2 points3 points 4 years agolocked comment (0 children) | Copy Link

Bruh, catch yourself on. My mind is blown that, at this point, you don't know it's Chris Rock the comedian and not the former wrestler Dwayne Johnson, AND that you thought those numbers are congruent to the the comedian who was on stage

[–]JasHanz 89 points90 points91 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Right? Like I saw the incident and said, "wait, didn't she run off with one of their kids friends or something, and now he's defending her honour by slapping another celebrity AT THE FUCKING OSCARS???!!!"

[–]defeater_of_bigotry_ 26 points27 points28 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It's amazing how much power women have just for being women.

[–]Beneficial-Union-995 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

And then they claim that they're the oppressed ones in wester society.

[–]TitanicPat -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"With great Power comes great responsibility!"

Which is why feminist doctrine keeps quiet about influence.

[–]Beneficial-Union-995 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Bold of you to assume that feminists are willing to take any responsibility 😂

[–]TitanicPat 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh, that's my point, they don't want power. Power comes with all that icky responsibility. Ew, no, gross!

They would rather do things like influence large platforms and powerful structures into creating rules and protections for them, or in this specific case, Influence men into becoming violent for them, while they can sit back with clean Powerless hands.

[–]ManofGod1000 136 points137 points138 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

This right here more than anything else. Well she is on the hotdog carousel, he is simping for her and she has no honor, at all.

[–]Alarming_Draw 42 points43 points44 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

She even fucked a guy almost the same age as their KID.

Not to mention she clearly helped fuck up their kids-look at them.

She is responsible for SO much damage its unreal. No wonder she's openly called herself a 'vocal feminist'....

[–]StingRayFins 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Fucking the kid isn't really the issue. Dude is in his 20s and is an adult.

The issue is she cheated. The other issue is she didn't own up to it. She tried to downplay it by calling it an "entanglement" and then say that she was unhappy and in a bad place. Blah blah blah, you know what they all say.

Then she tried to make an excuse that she was trying to help heal the guy because that might make her happy. Then she said she learned that it didn't and happiness can't come from outside of yourself. In your 50s to learn this?

They were never in an open relationship. They tried to patch that to save face. If you listen to their interviews and watch their reactions, Will had no ZERO clue about this and he was visibly hurt when he found out.

[–]UnfriskyDingo 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It is an issue still. You should never be with someone your childs age.

[–]Alarming_Draw 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

100 percent. Though their kids were already messed up by this point, that kid will now need EXTRA therapy for the rest of his life...

[–]Practical-Rip6471 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We're vilified for prioritising a woman's attractiveness or beauty. But to a woman her age, nothing is more important than to be seen to still have the ability to seduce young men! Make that make sense.

[–]ghostjava -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Their relationship is open and has been for years. He has been on the taco carousel, so it isn't even about that. She is manipulative and seems like she'd ask him to drink suicide kool-aid for her. He seems like he would drink it, too.

[–]StingRayFins 17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nope, Will had no idea at all about it. He was shocked and visibly hurt when he found out. This whole "open relationship" bullshit is all fluff and to save face.

[–]moriginal 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I mean he said he thought he was never going to speak to her again when he found out. I don’t think he was consenting to the affair.

[–]ghostjava 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yea I watched a YouTube video where he said he thought he would never speak to her again. She joked about how he had already got her back, whatever that means.

They were rumored as an opened relationship for more than a decade. Maybe they changed plans, and she broke her revised vows.

At any rate, it is easy to see by their entanglement labeled YouTube video that she is a manipulative woman, and she seems to have some kind of control over him.

[–]StingRayFins 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's the fine line no one talks about. All the negative attention will go to unhinged Will when the real poison is Jada. Mental abuse is real and not always physical.

Women cut with mind games, manipulation, words, defamation, mental abuse, and even physical abuse. When people look at crime and violence they always ignore that part and only bring up the physical part.

"He punched the random guy, I was just standing here" for example. But we all know damn well they can literally cause people to shoot or kill people. Then sit there twiddling their thumbs like I didn't do anything 🤷

[–]NohoTwoPointOh 19 points20 points21 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hm. In related news, Chris Rock’s tour next month sold out in record time. Apparently the secondary market has 4-6x pricing for tickets.

Starcade-style works aside, the tale of Will Smith is a tragedy. The sad part is that regular Joes go through this in real-life.

[–]daveyjones86 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah accept the police actually arrest us

[–]stingermamabee 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Jada has literally become Fish Mooney in the real world.

[+]alphamechwarrior1 points 4 years ago [recovered] (61 children) | Copy Link

The comments in that article are also telling of this incident. “A slap is not an act of violence” / “will smith knows the law that’s why he didn’t punch him”. “It’s up to us to raise children right not by what they watch on TV”. The shit goes on and on. But hey, he’s a “king” he can do whatever he wants.

[–]matrixislife 216 points217 points218 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

It's pretty bizarre. A slap isn't violence but silence is. I'd love to see the mental gymnastics to justify both of those.

[–]The_Choir_Invisible 33 points34 points35 points 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

I'd love to see the mental gymnastics to justify both of those.

Two live streams from that night, this one was predominately women of color and this one was predominantly men of color. Guess which group bent over backwards to justify one black man hitting another and which group thought it was appalling? I watched the streams back to back and after seeing the women quickly devolve to ghoulish romanticizing of violence I was so down until I happened on the second stream with the male host.

All too frequently, nothing entertains a woman more than watching two men destroy themselves on her behalf.

[–]StingRayFins 10 points11 points12 points 4 years agolocked comment (0 children) | Copy Link

This so why I cannot take modern women seriously. Too self absorbed and entitled. Egocentric. They'll gladly see the world burn if it's for them. It's so fkin evil it's scary.

This is literally evidenced by Jada and women defending her. Jada ruined Will and his image. He's a fking walking joke right now.

Not only that but she got him to hit another innocent man? In public? In a professional setting? This tossed professionalism out the window, standards went bye bye, control is gone, respect is thrown away. Chris didn't deserve that.

A woman cheated on her husband, made an excuse for it, and got her husband to assault another man, and women think this is a good thing.

Clown world.

[–]calmly86 97 points98 points99 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

… but never the silence of women.

All the women in Hollywood who knew of and helped, encouraged, benefitted from Harvey Weinstein’s actions… they all got a pass from the public and the media.

[–]Angryasfk 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree completely.

Hollywood is the very definition of snearing hypocrisy, empty platitudes, fatuous claims of virtue and total self absorption. And regarding Weinstein. How many of those who say they’re “appalled” by him are only “appalled” due to it being exposed to the public at large? I think we know the answer to that! And they’re supposedly big supporters of #metoo as well.

[–]TracyMorganFreeman 54 points55 points56 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's quite simple:

"If you don't do what I wanted you to do, it's violence."

[–]matrixislife 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh definitely. I just want to hear how they justify that out loud.

[–]SnarkyUsernamed 81 points82 points83 points 4 years ago (34 children) | Copy Link

Lol, this means I can slap a woman in the face if she says something I don't like, right? Cuz 'that's not violence', right?

[+]Dave_the_Chemist -57 points-56 points-55 points 4 years ago (33 children) | Copy Link

Why are you arguing that?

What he meant to say is that a slap and a punch are VERY different in the eyes of the law. Even if Chris rock went forward with the lawsuit, Smith would get off lighter having not curled his hand up

[–]SnarkyUsernamed 39 points40 points41 points 4 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

No they aren't. Battery is battery, period. Striking someone with an open hand is the same as striking with a foot or a closed fist. If you have state codified statute disputing that you should cite/post it because i cannot find anything suggesting that's even remotely true in my state.

[+]Dave_the_Chemist -20 points-19 points-18 points 4 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

Lord, I’m tired. Help me reach these keeeeds.https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/assault-battery-aggravated-assault-33775.html

I'm not following... Are you retracting your previous comment or doubling down? Because there isn't a codified statute, law citiation, or even a specific real-life example anywhere in that article. It does say, however, that shoving, slapping, and even raising a fist is considered simple assault in most states.

"Historically, battery and assault were considered separate crimes, with battery requiring that the aggressor physically strike or offensively touch the victim.

That passage makes no differentiation between open/closed fist, and that any physical strike or offensive touch (ex. an open handed slap) is assault/battery.

"Raising a fist at someone and threatening to smack them would be a simple assault. Shoving or slapping a person that results in bruising may also be charged as simple assault.

[+]Dave_the_Chemist -26 points-25 points-24 points 4 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

Believe what you want, dumbass. It clearly distinguishes simple vs. aggravated assault and goes over the severity required for each. They are argued very differently in court.

I’m not going to google dive into case law to prove a point for an idiot who will forget this happened tomorrow. Good luck debatelord

[–]SnarkyUsernamed 15 points16 points17 points 4 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

What he meant to say is that a slap and a punch are VERY different in the eyes of the law. Even if Chris rock went forward with the lawsuit, Smith would get off lighter having not curled his hand.

Not one sentence anywhere in your supporting article backs this totally fictitious and nonsensical claim in any way. There is not one court jurisdiction or legislature anywhere in the country that treats an open handed slap less severely than a punch, as you claimed, because they're both defined as assault/battery. Your article even confirmed it.

Defining Simple vs. Aggravated Assault Simple assault often carries misdemeanor penalties (and some states refer to this crime as a misdemeanor assault.) This crime generally involves either the threat of immediate harm or a physical act that results in minimal injuries. Raising a fist at someone and threatening to smack them would be a simple assault. Shoving or slapping a person that results in bruising may also be charged as simple assault.

Aggravated assault is a felony that may involve an assault resulting in serious bodily harm or an assault committed with a weapon or with the intent to commit a serious crime, such as rape. (Some assault laws name the aggravating factor—for example, "assault with a deadly weapon.") An assault may also be defined as aggravated if it occurs in the course of a relationship that the legal system regards as worthy of special protection (see "Aggravated Assault Example 2" below for more discussion). In the absence of factors such as these, the crime tends to be simple assault, as described above.

This is verbatim from the article you linked. Show me where it specifies the legal difference between closed vs. open fist, and how one is "aggravated" while the other isn't. Because the way i'm reading it punches, slaps, and shoves are all 'simple assault'.

Maybe the reason you're on the offensive and telling people to google your claims for you is that proof of them doesn't actually exist and you just can't admit to being wrong.

Dumbass.

Lol, I've been waiting for the dock to finish unloading my trailer since 10, and makin' some buku bux just staring at my tablet watching youtube and reddit all afternoon. Arguing with you has been the most productive and entertaining thing i've been able to accomplish all day.

If you can read that whole article and still not understand the difference between simple and aggravated assault, this conversation will always go over your head.

I quoted both parts of that article and then asked you to show me where it says what you think it says, you know, cuz i'm so stupid and whatnot, but you can't and are gaslighting me instead. Almost like you yourself are unable to read from the links you post. Or maybe you're having a comprehension issue?

Bro, you are SO weird. Literally none of this has to do with MRM. No one even mentioned that. WEIRDO 😂

[–]Angryasfk 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In my jurisdiction common assault (as the offence is called) is aggravated depending upon the age of the victim (above 60, or a child), if there’s any special frailties the person has, if a young child is present (that’s a recent addition for DV), if an implement is used, and depending upon the level of injury.

It is not aggravating to use curled fingers rather than an open hand. It’s the injury and victim that are the aggravating factors.

And, which is more to the point, is there any stipulation to that effect in Californian law?

[–]daveyjones86 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Dawg have you seen the power some people can put into a slap? You can knock people out with a slap I don’t see why the law would see it any different to a punch just because you had your hand open.

[+]Dave_the_Chemist -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Don’t ask me, I didn’t make the law. You can find case law where an aggravated assault charge is dropped to simple assault because of an open hand. I don’t give a fuck.

[–]Angryasfk 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Except you just assert it is the law, and the only evidence is an online law encyclopaedia which says that a slap “may” be charged as simple assault. Will Smith wasn’t behaving as if he’d carefully thought out the nuances of Californian law either.

[–]DuneBug 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Laws vary by municipality but it's pretty unlikely that many specify a closed vs open fist.

[–]Practical-Rip6471 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[+]Dave_the_Chemist -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

1st off: I’m clarifying someone’s comment. It was not my take.

BUT, because I was called out by a dumbass, low-effort commenter (you) on Reddit I had to look closer. It’s the difference between aggravated assault and simple assault. Just google it. There’s plenty of places to read up on this. I’m not going to look up case trials for you, a low-effort person.

[–]Angryasfk 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It isn’t in my jurisdiction. Does the Californian law on assault specify that it’s simple assault with an open hand but aggravated with a closed fist assuming the injury inflicted is the same and there are no other differences?

It’s not clear that curling fingers alone is an aggravating factor.

[–]phrunk87 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Wow, you have a very poor understanding of the law if you truly believe that...

[+]Dave_the_Chemist -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yep. Words will be violence but only words they don't like from people they don't like, they would give themselves the impunity to use said words without repercussions - bald jokes or insults toward men would be fine and not violence

This happened in California. And as per California law, it is a simple assault + battery.

The only reason Mr. Smith wasn't arrested is because Chris didn't file a police complaint.

Dead right. If it was Smith himself who was balding and Chris Rock had made a similar joke at Will Smith’s expense and go the same reaction, you can bet your bottom dollar that these feminists would be screaming about “toxic masculinity” and male violence and egos.

My wife and I have been talking a bit about this and she has sided with Will Smith. Personally I just don't care what two rich assholes do on TV.

I do know that if Chris Rock was white he'd be in the wrong.

If Will Smith was white, he'd be facing hate crime accusations.

If the joke was done at the expense of a insecure bald man and he was sensitive about his balding, he'd be the butt of the jokes today.

[–]zodiac200213 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Also in 2020 Chris Rock came out and revealed he has a non verbal learning disorder which shares symptoms with Asperger's. So it is very possible he doesn't understand the social cues like others do.If you hear him talk about it he said all he hears is words. He doesn't understand the meaning. It takes him longer. https://www.health.com/condition/neurological-disorders/nvld-chris-rock-learning-disorder

So Is Chris Rock the monster for making fun of Jada's alopecia (which is not a death sentence and is also just the medical term for Hair loss) or is Will Smith the monster for assaulting someone with a disability?

[–]zodiac200213 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

It could be very possible Chris Rock didn't know she suffered from alopecia. Also what about the millions of men who suffer from Hair loss every day and there's is no shortage of bald jokes for them.

[+]missingpupper 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The type of joke isn't really will's issue. Could have been about anything regarding his wife like what a hoe she is, probably would have been the same result.

[–]Grow_peace_in_Bedlam 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. It looks like she still has follicles there (unlike, say, George Costanza). I'm guessing she got a scalp micropigmentation (what is colloquially called a "hair tattoo," even though it uses a much finer ink than would be used for a conventional tattoo). That's what I got at age thirty to deal with the trauma of having gone bald in my twenties in a world that would laugh at me before showing me compassion, and I must say it was the best $1,000 I've ever spent.

Going back to Chris, given what I stated above, I can totally see why he thought she just shaved her head rather than suffering from baldness, since the devastation of DHT is not something that most women face.

[–]Alarming_Draw 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]DuneBug 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link

Yeah hitting people is not ok. Don't go to jail because your girl wants you to defend her honor.

Also hitting a comedian making jokes at the Oscar's is just absurd. I think a lot of people mentioned how livid certain people would be if it were a white comedian.

[–]Due-Slice-3685 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

Tbf though. There's no actual evidence that suggests Jada condoned it/asked for him to defend her

[–]Protektor35 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

That is wrong. Will Smith was laughing his ass off about the joke until he looked over and saw Jada giving him the stink eye. If you are married you know exactly what that look means. You didn't watch all of it or are actively putting your head in the sand to deny and ignore the truth.

[–]Due-Slice-3685 -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

She rolled her eyes.. the mic / camera didn't pick up anything else. Maybe she did say something, I'm just saying there is no hard evidence. I don't think 'that look' means go and slap him

[–]Protektor35 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

You clearly can't read what I typed. Read what I typed again. I said Jada gave Will the stink eye in the video. You clearly see Jada glaring at Will for laughing at the joke. Will and every married man knows that look from their wife. You choose to ignore that is your problem, not mine. It was so clearly obvious the look Jada gave to Will.

[–]Due-Slice-3685 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Yeah OK? Maybe she looked at him? So?! That is not her giving the green flag for Will to assault Chris

[–]Protektor35 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Clearly you are not married. It so very clear to anyone who has been married. It is that, you better do something about this because I am super pissed, look. You clearly can't read non-verbal communications.

[–]Due-Slice-3685 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Lol ridiculous. Would you attack someone because you're husband/wife asked you to?

And I am as good as married.. but me and my partner do not manipulate each other

[–]Protektor35 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Well you need to read up more on Jada and Will Smith's marriage to see how dysfunctional it has been for years.

Also doesn't matter what I would do or wouldn't do. I do know the look and clearly Will Smith who just minutes before was laughing his ass off decided that Jada wanted him to do something about the bald joke and decided that slapping Chris Rock was what she wanted or needed him to do.

Also "good as married" isn't the same as "married". Come back and talk to me when you are married for more than 5 years. You will then see the difference. I say 5 years because it seems that these days young couples statistically call it quits a large percentage of the time before 5 years because they end up not being able to stand each other.

[–]Due-Slice-3685 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

My point is.. you are making a lot of assumptions about their relationship, and all relationships. I said, there is no hard evidence

If you're basing this all of a look she gave... it is still Will who acted violently

As good as married is absolutely the same as married.

[–]Protektor351 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

As good as married is absolutely the same as married.

That is absolutely incorrect. Only when you are married and force to deal with each other and are no longer able to freely walk away, makes it totally different. Until you are married you can easily say screw this I'm out and pack all your shit and leave saying I'm done with your bullshit. Marriage makes it a lot harder to do that because now you legally share everything including all assets and debt.

And I am basing it on all the interviews that they have given over the years on their marriage and interviews on how they have an open marriage and how she dates other people and has sex with them but he isn't allowed.

There is a lot more going on that you are totally unaware of that they have talked about many times in interviews.

[–]Due-Slice-36850 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I am aware of their relationship. What they show the world at least. I am not ignorant to their situation.

But still.. blaming her, is a scapegoat. A woman cannot force a man to get up and slap someone. He has freewill regardless of their particular circumstances

[–]Protektor351 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I didn't say anything about force. I said she gave him a look of anger and pissed and he choose how to respond. But to claim Jada wasn't involved and didn't push the issue on Will Smith is garbage.

[–]Due-Slice-36850 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

But you're suggesting he had to do it because of how she reacted. So you are saying he was forced somehow.

he choose how to respond

And yes. Exactly my point

But to claim Jada wasn't involved and didn't push the issue on Will Smith is garbage

Their situation may have added to his reaction. BUT, you cannot say she is more guilty than he is. He is ultimately to blame

[–]Protektor351 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I can absolutely blame her for pushing her husband to do something. If she was so offended then why didn't Jada get up and walk out? Will was laughing until she gave him a look. If she wasn't trying to make Will do something then why give the look, why not just get up and walk out?

Because Jada absolutely knew what the look would mean to Will given their marriage and their relationship. Jada has made it very clear in interviews that she wears the pants in that marriage. Will said he sees divorce as a failure and Will has said the biggest failure in his life was his first divorce. Jada has point blank said she did NOT want to be married and didn't believe in marriage but did it because family and marriage was important to Will. Jada has controlled their marriage from day one. Jada has made this clear in many interviews. It is why Jada started dating other men while Jada was married because marriage does NOT mean anything to Jada. Jada uses Will's desire to avoid divorce against Will. It has been clear for years, where Jada was allowed to data and have sex with anyone Jada wants but Will isn't allowed to even flirt with anyone.

Stop trying to let Jada off from any fault in this situation. Jada has as much fault as Will. Jada is super manipulative and that has been clear for years in their interviews! Stop saying Jada has no fault, she absolutely does!

[–]Due-Slice-36850 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Because maybe it was just an eyeroll and she wasn't that offended? I'm sure if she was, should would have/could have done something duh.

[–]Protektor351 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

You need to look up other stupid things Jada has pushed Will to do stupidly in public in the past.

[–]MydnightRose -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So what you're saying is you can read verbal ques that prompt you to act like an idiot on national TV, ruin your legacy, and potentially go to jail...over a stupid joke? On top of that Will's actions has opened them both up to more ridicule related back to the entanglement.

[–]Protektor35 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Wouldn't prompt me to do anything in such a stupid matter, but then people in general are stupid and do stupid things all the time in the heat of anger or being goaded in to by friends and family. People do stupid shit all the time, that doesn't even include doing stupid shit while drunk. I've seen men and women get in to fights over comments made by someone. I've seen women go why do you keep looking at my man and then get in to a fight about when no alcohol was involved. I've seen men do the same, why do you keep looking at my woman or what did you just say about my woman, then get into a fight about.

Lots of people are completely stupid and no I don't think being a well known actor who makes a lot money prevents that person from being stupid from time to time. Perfect example of Will and Jada being stupid is they agree to marriage then Jada is free to have sex with anyone she wants and Will isn't even allowed to flirt. Yes they have publicly talked about this issue in interviews. Yep both are stupid and Jada manipulates Will and his guilt over divorce and wanting a family. Jada said she didn't like marriage but did it for Will who said his first divorce was his greatest shame and how he wanted family. Does Jada use that against Will? Absolutely. Jada has made it clear in interviews that she wears the pants in that relationship and clearly manipulates Will Smith based on the public statements made by Jada Smith.

So do I think Jada would manipulate Will Smith in to doing something stupid? Absolutely based on their history and things they have said and done in public. This is not the first time Jada has pushed Will to do stupid shit in public either.

Does that excuse Will's behavior? Absolutely not. It also does NOT let Jada off the hook either. They both created the situation and now have to live with it.

Well if you look at the latest video you can see Jada's reaction to Will Smith going up on stage. She clearly loved it. You can see her laughing about the slap from behind and to the side of Jada.

The whole thing is going to cost both Jada and Will Smith. Will resigned from the Academy and he is still facing punishment from the Academy. Oscars also put out a press release saying they asked Will Smith to leave and he refused.

[+]MydnightRose -6 points-5 points-4 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I think Jada showed her displeasure at the joke, but that doesn't mean she wanted him to act a fool. Just stop laughing. That's what an adult does!

[–]Protektor35 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You need to learn more about their marriage that they have said publicly in interviews and how Jada has basically cheated on Will and never wanted to be married and has openly manipulated Will, because Will considers divorce a major failure and said that repeatedly in public and said that exact thing about his first divorce. How Will considered it his biggest failure. Also you need to look up Jada pushing Will to do stupid shit in public in the past as well.

[–]MydnightRose 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I know some things about their marriage. I believe Will's mentality about divorce is admirable, and I do believe Jada is toxic. I know about the Red Table Talk entanglement crap. I'm interested in learning more and am thinking of getting his book. But I did see some quotes from both of them about each other, and Will does seem like he loves her more than she loves him. She's not worthy of being honored, I'm not arguing that. I'm arguing that the "side eye look from the wife" is just an indicator of "we'll talk about this when we get home" not "get up and slap the man".

[–]Protektor35 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you look at the latest video that came out where is shows Jada from behind and the side, you can see Jada laughing at Will Smith going on stage and slapping Chris. Will has resigned from the Academy and the Academy has still said they are going to punish him. Also the Oscar's put out a press release saying they asked Will to leave and he refused.

This is going to professionally cost both Will and Jada Smith. It isn't going away and people will remember for a long time.

[–]Protektor35 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Then why didn't Jada grab him and stop him from going on stage? Why didn't Jada say shit to him when he came to sit down? Why did she not step in when Will kept yelling "Keep my wife's name out of your fucking mouth". Why did she not try and stop him at all in any form if she was only mildly annoyed.

Why wouldn't Jada go stop being an ass in public, Will you're on TV. Everyone is staring. Why didn't Jada say stop this isn't the time or place to do this.

It's because that behavior is exactly what she wanted.

[–]MydnightRose 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm not on Jada's side at all. A woman with honor doesn't put herself in a position to rile her man up to defend her. She wasn't in danger and nothing should have happened. I am just saying that Will's reaction to the look was an overreaction. It's like he knew he would be in the doghouse and thought doing what he did would get him out. A lack of foresight.

[–]Protektor35 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you look at the newest video that came out you can see Jada Smith laughing about Will slapping Chris Rock as he came back down from the stage. The video shows Jada from the side and back. This is clearly what Jada wanted and she found it funny that Will slapped Chris Rock.

Will Smith resigned from the Academy over this. The academy has said he will be punished. The Oscar's released a press release saying they asked Will Smith to leave and he refused. This is going to cost both Will and Jada Smith professionally. It will be remembered for a long long time.

There is also still no guarantee that Chris Rock won't eventually press criminal charges. He still has many many months before the statute of limitations expires. Chris Rock has publicly said he is still processing it and trying to deal with it and decide how to handle it.

Yeah-glad others posted about this. We need to look at the damage she's done as a whole. This didnt start with Will slapping Rock. This began the day Jada started hating on men and became the Jada we all know today-a typical modern feminist, who publicly humiliated her man, fucked every dick in town including one a similar age to her kid,yet still expects her cuck bodyguard to beat anyone up her highness rolls her eyes over.

[–]Angryasfk 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]MBV-09-C 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, sports "super-fans" are absolutely nuts, I still remember one time we had a end of the season high school football game, we knew our team lost to the one across the river because of the dozens of car alarms going off in the night and the broken glass along the road in the morning. High school football, not even professional level.

[–]Angryasfk 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They forget that sport is a game, and it’s supposed to be “fun”. Apparently it’s war by another name for many.

[–]Alarming_Draw 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

THIS.

I've posted for years here that despite all the feminist bullshit, if WOMEN stopped expecting their men to 'defend' the fuck ups that THEY often cause, there'd be hardly ANY violence in the world.

Drunk women are the WORST. I've seen them stamp on strangers (mens) feet who accidentally nudged them while dancing in nighclubs. Seen women get right in strangers faces (mens) cos they were angry and think they can be aggressive yet get no comeback-and ALWAYS, they immediately shove their poor boyfriends in the path of any trouble the SECOND things go against them.

And of course, women STILL expect to be the first to be escorted out of the burning building, the first into the escape rafts on a ship, first saved if war breaks out, etc, etc, etc.

These past years have highlighted that, far from feminists being 'victims of patriarchy', women are actually living the lives of protected spoiled princesses in many cases!

[–]C-chaos19 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

But isn’t it the men’s choice to start a fight? They have control over their actions. It shouldn’t be accepted to jump to fights. I think maybe some women enjoy seeing the fight and some men like to fight.

[–]Fearless-File-3625 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes it is 100% men's fault for getting into fights, but women more than men encourage this type of behaviour. Just look how many women are defending Will Smith.

[–]ActuallyTBH 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Considering the poor joke, it legitimately looked like Will Smith went up to slap Rock after all the times he didn't do something and got derided by his wife. Pressured by his wife, in a way, to do something or face the ridicule of having to hear "not a real man" in the back of the limo all the way home.

[–]Alarming_Draw 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And new footage has come out showing Jada give Will a look JUST before he stopped laughing and went and did it-THEN shows HER LAUGHING AS HE DOES IT TO ROCK.

She is as guilty as sin.

[–]Alarming_Draw 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Law STATES that psychological or coercive control (same thing) is seen as not being responsible for your own actions-thats WHY so many women avoid jail "becuz mah boyfriend was controlling me and forced me".

So why are you defending women who do just that to men?

[–]pappo4ever 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Now its clear that all the talk about toxic violent men, is not about violence. Violence is perfectly OK if its used to empower women. It shows that women are very violent creatures.

[–]Banned_On_Facebook 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And why do women slave-owners get a free pass? Like they weren't yelling at their slaves, "Work harder! I need a new dress!"

[–]LocalNative141 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Anyone who has actually been in a fight knows that violence is not something that should ever be taken lightly. Men always face pressure to be manly and act all tough and macho, Especially from women! It’s easy for them to tell us how we should act, when they have nothing to worry about. Women can say whatever they want without fear of violence.

[–]MBV-09-C 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Even if it is staged, it sets a dangerous standard for the rest of society that sees this and goes "a woman was dishonored, the men must beat other men" and that's the aspect we should be focusing on more imo.

[–]Nemesis823 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So I am torn on this. Today it is hard for guys to date because girls are quite a bit entitled, but on the same front, it seemed that men had an easier time getting married and getting laid back in the days where this mentality was commonplace. I don’t think it’s really an easy black and white answer.

[–]GodBirb 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep same.

They always cry about ‘benevolent sexism’ being when the man thinks they have to protect the woman, then they go ahead and defend Will Smith’s actions because he’s protecting the woman’s feelings. Can’t the woman stand up for herself? Or does benevolent sexism mean shit all? Or does it mean you get to pretend your oppressed when you do and don’t feel like it?

I do not understand lol…

[–]0mnica 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A man could kill a completely innocent man just because his wife said she felt raped, and the women would applaud him... while he's going to prison for life and she's messing around with other men.

There are countless stories like that, and it's sad that men would do anything to "protect" a woman without second thought.

This whole thing is garbage. If they wanted to seriously get the maximum reaction to the joke then Will Smith and Jada Smith would have instantly got up and walked out. But notice in the videos that Will Smith and the black woman in the gold dress next to him were laughing their ass off until Will Smith looked over at Jada and saw she was pissed, so she basically gave him the stink eye saying do something!

They didn't dare get up and walk out which would have been a stronger statement. They wouldn't dare because then they couldn't accept the awards. Also notice that at the event no security even tried to stop him from getting to the stage when he wasn't suppose to be there. Non of the audience even said a word or boo-ed him or even called him out for the violence on camera. Some of the networks did go to commercial and not show it live though. [–]n0limitt 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To be honest, I don't disagree with him doing what he did. Slapping someone for insulting your woman feels about right for me.However, I think all of that because I'm a regular guy who does not make a daily impact onto many other people's lives.

I guess I'm trying to say that I would have slapped Chris Rock if the joke would've really hit me hard but I'd also be the first to leave the Academy awards, say sorry, and abandon my nomination on the spot. In my eyes, Will disrespected the event, not the comedian.

[–]xTheVyrusx 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Aside from caring about mens rights as I do, I don’t care about male or female celebs and Hollywood for that matter. Hollywood is a cocaine and alcohol induced wonderland full of money and power the 99% worship them by arguing online and defending them, it’s sickening. So when heard about it and I saw the video I shrugged it off, they’ll make up, make money off of it in some way and carry on in the next chapter of bullshit.

Na I've heard a lot of men pipe up too, especially single men claiming "well if someone insulted my wife..."

What I have noticed... It tends to be from the same spectrum of society (politically).

I'm from the UK, and the people in my experience the most accepting of what Will did, are Labour voters and people more associated with the left. Appreciate how biased that sounds, but personally i think it's because violence has become so engrained in certain political groups as a genuine response/comeback, that I genuinly think they velieve Will did the right thing.

When I say things like, it was a joke, violence is never justified against words... I get bombarded with well we know you'd never stick up for your spouse/wife then...

Like, were Jada your average person, I'm sure she'd be mortified by her husband assaulting a man over a joke... a shit joke, but a joke. Then again, I'm assuming she isn't, so who knows.

[–]sourbelle 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Well I’ll be an exception then. I don’t think Will was in the right at all.One - that’s what the hosts of these events always do - roast the attendees. If even I who haven’t watched one of these shows in years know that then I’m sure the Smiths did as well.

Two - I personally don’t think the joke was that bad. It was a small jab at best.

Three - Imagine just imagine the different reaction if it had been one of the female comics hosting (not Betty White FFS) that told that joke and Will did what he did.

In fact, that is why I thought it was staged at first. Even though there are 3 women hosting the event, it just happens to be a person of the same sex & race who told the joke.

What he did for my money was assault plain and simple.

And its just frigging hair loss. It not like she has a terminal or even serious condition causing it. I’ve read that Chris didn’t even know she had the condition. I didn’t either. But I don’t usually keep up on celebrity stuff very much.

[–]Protektor35 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If Will Smith had be white there would be a totally different reaction. If Chris Rock was gay again there would be a totally different reaction. If Chris Rock had been a woman it would have been a totally different reaction as well.

Also doesn't this feed the stereo type of an angry black man who can't control himself and resorts to violence?

Also if Jada was so pissed why didn't she leave? Why didn't Jada go up there and smack Chris Rock if she was so upset. Note Will Smith was laughing his ass off until he looked over and saw Jada giving him the stink eye, like do something! Married men know that look their wife gives them when they are pissed and want them to do something about it.

Will Smith was being a total beta male to his wife, letting her order him and around and mess with his career. If she was so upset then why didn't she walk out? Why didn't he walk out? That would have been a bigger statement.

Hollyweird is so stupid and fake. I actually don't care what some asshole actor does and if they all got in a fight and burned the whole town down I wouldn't shed a tear. Actor's think they are special just because the play at pretend which every child does growing up. They get paid to pretend. That doesn't make them special or even interesting. Certainly not worth even listening to them about anything. If you really think about it they get paid to pretend to be someone else, basically lie and you want me to listen to you? Nope, you don't have an amazing or special job and aren't an amazing or special person, get over yourself.

Will Smith's slap was women's violence against men. The feminist movement adoration of traditional male roles that elevate and romanticise women, is women's violence.

[+]DavidByron2 -23 points-22 points-21 points 4 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

My guess is right wingers / tradcons and therefore feminists and wokists will defend it because they like the idea of enforcing feminist crap (can't make jokes about a woman) with violence. The same type of people falling for the Zelensky crap and supporting Ukrainian Nazis / Azov battalion.

Violence to enforce their petty "morality" system on others seems about right for them.

It's basically a return to Victorian era "patriarchy" which feminists all love with laws about how men must serve women. It's like sexual harassment law with violence towards men added in. Make a joke about a woman? Another man must attack you.

Well, I'm a man, and while I don't think violence was called for, I think Chris crossed a line. He talked shit and got hit.

And I say that as someone who is generally up for some nasty humor. But Jada wasn't there to get roasted over her health condition. Whether you like her or not, that just wasn't cool. It wasn't even a funny joke in my opinion.

Also, this perspective of "I only see women defending Smith" is unhealthy. Plenty of women don't condone his actions. But I already see a bunch of upvoted comments about how hypocritical women are, or toxic femininity bullshit.

The absolute worst part about this community is how many people here are a hair's breadth from becoming toxic red pillers. Don't feed that problem.

[+]Tai9ch -11 points-10 points-9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Let's be absolutely clear here: Isolated symbolic violence is categorically different from violence intended to seriously hurt someone and should be treated differently.

Whether or not people should be slapping each other over honor violations in 2022, Chris Rock is correct to not be pushing for charges to be pressed and the police are correct to not be pressing charges unilaterally.

[–]semiprowhistle 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’m pretty shure about this because she already told once when she cheated on him(o If that was not a red flag enough), “if he loved me he would know what to do” I’m pretty shure this woman is a predator and has manipulated his behavior. Let’s be hones, if we want to be civilized and this is not any random guy from the street, they are joking, he made jokes on the past but in any possible way I will not stand with Will Smith.

[–]Aran82 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I’ve heard a lot of female double speak “violence is wrong but…” if women were honest they would say they are actually turned on by men fighting over them.

Female validation and their perception of their safety (no matter how hysteric /misguided) is always more important than men’s actual lives, actual physical safety and their Liberty. This is why abortion which can be a health care choice but it’s mainly a lifestyle / convenience is framed as being about women’s “lives” ie that every pregnancy leads to death.

This is why in Ukraine in 2022 men have to stay and fight and die and women are given safe passage out and they will still say women suffer more in wars.

I think we often forget celeberties aren't that different from us. What he did was a normal human reaction. The man insulted his wife and he snapped by doing something many of us have probably done at least once in our lives. [–]needalife94 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you watch the clip , after Chris tells the joke , they cut back to will and jada. He was laughing but jada looked pissed. They cut back to chris he gets a couple of sentences out and then that's when will walks up and smacks him. She probably said something to will right after they cut back to chris. So was probably mad and telling Will he better do something. Like really ? It wasn't even that bad of a joke!! And Chris said he didn't know she had the disease that she has. I can't remember what it's called. I saw a chick post a pic of will walking up and she wrote on it "a real man stands up for his women no matter what cost". I was just thinking no , that's what a fool does.

[–]Daveycracky 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have talked to one man, and a good man, that supported this move.. of course it was an emotional reactionary point of view. One that men could at least nod their head at. Defending their woman. All but one recognized this move as a bad hill to die on. For a multitude of reasons that are obvious to anyone that is not driven by emotional impulse.

This action, by this person, will have very bad shockwaves. Amplified by the institution that let him get away with it. Gave him an award, FFS. Comedy was already in a bad way, it’s now become acceptable if not heroic to add violence to jokes. This ain’t good at all folks.

[–]IllustriousPiano7300 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For women, i believe this is a sense of an attention grab, or it’s all about them. I’m not saying don’t protect your women if some disrespects her but that wasn’t the disrespect I would say warranted that. However, for some women man the world revolves around them and their egos and you serve them. So now they don’t care this is just another thing you have to do as a man for their approval all the while their responsibilities remain the same. Jada didn’t come and console Will after or anything. [–]BuyFar1175 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The equal rights amendment should be passed . That said, Im sick of the man bashing and hate. I really am. I don't hate women but the toxic culture is really insane. Women made us this way by choosing us over the eons. Now that the world is tamed the reality of it's brutality is hidden until the next war breaks out.

Yes some women will fight and some men will be Cissy's but we all know that the tide turns on what men do with the violence they choose in us. They call us monsters and say we are not needed, but that's just the politics of trying to take power.

Women derailed the equal rights amendment not men.

If they want it they can take it. But men will always be the first sacrifice to die for our survival. Thus the saying, "women & children first".

Idk if I can have a say in this because I’m a female but I haven’t heard to much about this so I can’t fully form an opinion. But I saw the video and if someone said something about my wife who would probably be insecure about it… I’d slap them too. But either way they both could have handled the situation better. Chris rock should have thought about if she’s insecure, then if she was the joke shouldn’t have been made. But also, Will Smith could have just used his words first before the slap.

Also… I believe that Chris was the victim of YEARS of built up rage that Will just snapped and hit him

I also think that the public isn’t getting the full information. There has to be something else between Chris and Will

[–]Fearless-File-3625 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

But I saw the video and if someone said something about my wife who would probably be insecure about it… I’d slap them too.

  1. Why ? If every man started slapping the comedians for offensive jokes, most comedians would be in graves.
  2. Would you say the same if Chris Rock was a woman ? Would it still be ok if Will Smith goes up there and slaps the shit out of her ?

Chris rock should have thought about if she’s insecure, then if she was the joke shouldn’t have been made.

Many men are insecure about their height and penis length, doesn't stop people from making "small dick energy" jokes.

Also… I believe that Chris was the victim of YEARS of built up rage that Will just snapped and hit him

Yes, Will's wife has been manipulating and emasculating him for years.

[–]beckett3333 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

  1. I’m a girl but I’m just speaking in general not just about comedians. Men get insecure about going bald too and I don’t think its right to make jokes about an insecurity, man or woman.

  2. Yup. Doesn’t matter who does what, I don’t think stereotypically because it’s wrong in my eyes.

Also, yes. Small dick energy jokes should stop. But that’s a whole other topic, small dick and height jokes piss me off. And about his wife, idk much about their relationship but if it is toxic then maybe they should take that break, or even end it. But that would be his and her decision. I just think that everyone is in the wrong in this situation and also in the right. Chris Rock does make jokes about anything because he’s a comedian, because people find those things funny. In not saying anyone is wrong nor right. Just that it was a poorly timed private thing that could have been handled in a mature manner

[–]Fearless-File-3625 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't agree about the joke thing but at least you are consistent with enforcing your viewpoint across genders. That's good.

I agree that that Will should get a divorce and leave, but his wife is a master manipulator and probably gaslighting him to not leave or something.

[–]beckett3333 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly, I’ve had those types of relationships and he has to see that it’s not healthy and leave on his own. I’m not sure how the public can help him see this but I think we are trying. Also, thanks for having an open mind about all this.

[–]JohnTM3 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

To Chris's credit, most people insecure about their hair loss wouldn't shave their head and embrace the look, there are plenty of options especially for the affluent.

[–]beckett3333 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I agree. But in my view of women I see the opposite… my mom is fat and I saw her cry about it DAILY but she would still wear her bodycon dresses, crop tops etc. I’ve also seen that with my auntie, stepmom, etc. I’ve even done it. It’s the way of trying to make yourself feel more comfortable

[–]JohnTM3 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Unfortunately for the obese there is little that can be done to conceal that appearance. Fat jokes are never OK.

[–]beckett3333 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. My father is balding and he asks me to help his shave his head every month. Even though he is insecure about it. We have always been living by the rules of “if you can’t hide it, embrace it”

[–]daveyjones86 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[+]beckett3333 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I do agree with that. And I kinda hinted that by saying the situation could have been handled better. It’s one way to handle a situation but that doesn’t mean it’s the proper way to handle it. I choose speech over violence anyday. But I think that in this situation Chris just overstepped at the wrong time, Will is dealing with a lot and sadly Chris was the victim to Wills built up anger

[–]Frosty-Gate-8094 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, I'm a man and didn't really have a problem with it. Mild violence has it's place. It's efficient, effective, and has no serious consequences. The slap served its purpose and didn't injure Chris Rock. Mild forms of violence as a corrective or disciplinary measure are used by just about every species of animal and I don't see why humans should be any different. The white knighting is a little meh and also this was most likely an overreaction but in general I have no problem with men settling their differences physically as long as it has no lasting effects.

[–]Fearless-File-3625 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Mild violence is how people get into bad books of the system and then get imprisoned for 50 years over something trivial.

[–]MinuteOrTwoToTwo 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't really understand what this means. What are "bad books of the system"? And what happened in this hypothetical scenario that landed this person a 50 year prison sentence?

[–]Fearless-File-3625 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

People with a history of assaults ("mild violence" in your terms) are judged more harshly in the justice system. Innocent people have got 2 - 3 years in prison due to their bad history and 20-30 years for small crimes.

[–]MinuteOrTwoToTwo 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Max penalty for misdemeanor assault in California is 6 months, and that would be an EXCEPTIONALLY harsh sentence. I guess I kinda understand what you're saying - having a criminal history might get you harsher sentences. But I'm having a hard time connecting the dots between misdemeanor assault and a 30 year prison sentence.

[–]daveyjones86 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Violence is never acceptable unless someone is physically assaulting you.

It's absolutely wrong when you are on a huge event like the Oscar's, where impressionable and naive people will see how you resolve conflicts with violence.

So you go ahead and encourage your fiance to slap someone who said something you didn't like. That's exactly how people get shot and killed, over their foolish ego.

[–]rosewiththornzzz -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Let me tell you something. I was the kind of person in high school that didn’t take listening to shit. If I heard someone insult another person, or disrespect a teacher, yeah. I’d smack em. Because sometimes we need some sense smacked into us to realize that our words have an effect

[–]daveyjones86 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

[–]rosewiththornzzz -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

And I bite my tongue in the real world. But there are some things a person does not have to take

[–]daveyjones86 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Absolutely, but escalating something verbal into something physical is never the way.

If will had stood up for her only in his speech he gave, that would have been way better. Hell, he could have made fun of Chris Rock right back and it would have worked fine.

I commend your father and man for being willing to defend you, but please be the voice of reason and tell them not to do so over words. It just puts you all at risk for retaliation which alot of these crappy people are really looking for.

[–]rosewiththornzzz 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree he could’ve used his words instead, but I do understand why he did what he did. It remains, we are on the outside. He have no idea what Smith was thinking in the moment. But I’ll try and make an educated guess.

Smith has been struggling in their marriage ever since she cheated on him and even more so since they entered an open marriage, this much we do know. He’s had to take a lot of ridicule for it as well, just look at all the memes and internet postings. My opinion? Again this is simply my opinion. That was a breaking point. He snapped. Has anyone taken the time to actually look at his body language as he was “laughing”. It was actually quite an awkward laugh. I think it was a breaking point for him. And he felt like shit afterwards when he received his award, in case anyone couldn’t hear the sound of his voice. And for those unaware, Denzel Washington actually went to speak with Smith when the show went for commercials, but the cameras were able to get a visual. Smith and Washington could be seen hugging afterward. When asked for later comments, Washington said he wanted to keep their conversation private, but what happened for Smith was very emotional and he was going through a very emotional time. What can that tell a person? He’s a man who was broken by his wife’s infidelity, and only furthermore when she asked for an open marriage. I can’t imagine what that would do to a man. And then having to listen to people joke about those infidelities then joke about the hair loss. I really think it broke him
