What will it take for people to genuinely care about male suicide, boys' education, fathers' access to their children etc.?

Only if males and females are exactly the same, which they're not. 🙄

Sure, why not, let's blame all of women's issues on toxic femininity. /s

Brilliant! Perfect shot. Fuckin' BULL'S EYE. Poetry. Can't praise this enough. Sarcasm in its Platonic Ideal.

No. If a psychologist's goal is to actually help men and not try to turn them into women, it shouldn't be the same.

If psychology was the same for men as women: "You're cool. People just dont understand you. Its their problem if you don't fit in. You deserve better".

If it was the same for women as men: "Get your act together. You need to shape up. Its not all about you, you know. Maybe you should consider how your actions affected her/him and made them react that way to you".

Honestly, I think that therapy is too generalized as it is now. There's a surplus of female counselors which are poorly equipped to handle male patients, and I know first hand having been through over a dozen counselors over thirty years.

I'm a staunch supporter of equality and providing an even playing field for everyone (with special support for those of special needs), but even as much as I insist that most human behavior is learned, I cannot deny that hormones and brain chemistry have major impact on people's lived experiences.

Gender roles are primarily learned behaviors and as such, baseless bullshit. But gender behaviors still exist as an absolute chemical truth. The whole concept behind gender dysphoria is feeling a disconnect between your biological sex and your mental gender.

There are psychologists which specialize in children, which is a necessary skillset; children behave differently to stress and trauma than adults. So to should psychologists specialize in male, female, and/or alternative genders. Ideally to be fully certified you should have to study all three, but specialize in one specifically.

There are a lot of problems with the mental health industry. First and foremost of which is the DSM and Psychiatry and the Pharmaceuticals industry.

Read that article back to back with this one https://www.elle.com/life-love/sex-relationships/news/a24162/how-seeing-a-male-psychologist-changed-the-therapy-game-me/ , which almost certainly wouldn't appear in the pages of Elle today. This quote in particular is noteworthy: "He gives me actionable advice. We delve deep into the reasoning behind the who, the what, the why, but we also reach conclusive decisions regarding what to do. Instead of spending hours, weeks, months, even years contemplating the past, we work on the future. It gives me something tangible that I can carry with me.
He holds me accountable. When I lie to him (shut up, you all lie to your therapists), when I leave something out of a story and then casually slip it in three weeks later, when I go back on a promise I made to myself, he calls me out and makes me talk about it. My female therapists of yesteryears would quietly pat me on the back, say it was okay, forgive me. I must be so stressed. It must be so hard. Richard understands it's hard. He also understands the importance of honesty

We laugh. Laughing in therapy is something that I never thought was important, or even possible, or even proper. I was always bored with my other therapists. I'd yawn an approximate 28 times per session and wonder if it was appropriate to curl up in a ball and nap. (I asked Richard this, by the way. He said if I wanted to nap it was fine. "It's your money," he said.)
There's never any passive aggressiveness. I never have to wonder if he's thinking something and not telling me. I never have to wonder if he's holding back. I remember leaving female therapists' office wondering what they really thought about me—if they went home and told their friends or husbands about their wacky patient with the [insert problem of the day]. I'm pretty sure I know exactly what Richard thinks of me, and if I'm wrong, he's good enough to make me feel that I do."

I'll go out on a limb and assert that what Friedlander is describing here is an approach that's beneficial to at least 95% of the human race, regardless of gender. The number of people who actually get well and make progress just by mulling over their misfortunes and disappointments is almost certainly vanishingly small
