What do you think of 1st wave feminism?

The issue with first wave is that it happened a long time ago, and almost all our opinions about it are based on popular media's perception.

We only hear about their struggles and successes, about how great they were or how so and so feminist was a badass. We rarely hear about the bombings, the white feather brigade, the racism and classism (even suffragette did not want voting rights for every woman).

Probably someone a century or two in the future would perceive the current wave of feminists similarly and actually believe that they fought for equality of the sexes.

Every era of feminism was needlessly harmful and problematic. 1st wave was no exception. It included the suffragettes who were considered domestic terrorists. They targeted politicians with letter bombs and IEDs. They also started the white feather campaign to shame men who didn't enlist into WW1. There were instances of feminists demanding (and getting) the same rights as men without the same responsibilities men had. There were even some feminists advocating for male genocide. And no, this isn't an exaggeration.

First wave feminism led to where we are now. It sounds fine on paper, admittedly. Because why shouldn't women be afforded the same opportunities offered to men?

Except now we can see where that leads. HR departments, false accusations of wrongdoing, corporate newspeak, women occupying entry level jobs for fifteen decades (denying men who would advance access in the process), fewer job opportunities across the board, decreased wages, the list just goes on.

Now, we know why women shouldn't have been afforded the same opportunities as men.

The only sane conclusion can be that it wasn't worth it.

I would consider first wave feminism women wanting to vote. The thing is, most women didn’t want to vote because they did not want the responsibilities that came with voting. With that being said, even the purest and oldest form of feminism worked against the woman and not for her.

Feminism in nature aims to even the playing field between both genders. Resulting in forcing women to reach the standard of masculinity, while simultaneously feminizing men (so they can come down to the woman’s standard to achieve equality).

Their has never been a time in modern history when feminism helped women more then it hurt them.

I don't necessarily support "1st wave" feminism either as ALL feminism is cherry picking to the extreme. "What I like is feminism, everything else isn't real feminism".

The problem with current feminists they think men just got the right to vote because "Man" instead of looking at voting laws that required voters to OWN PROPERTY!

Which, shocker, most men did not own property (and some women DID own property and voted). Then when men were given the right to vote, it was based on the idea of conscription.

Feminists say "But muh equality" So I would LOVE to see all the feminist debates saying "Well we want the vote too, but we don't want to get conscripted" So what do MEN do? give women the vote with the promise that they don't have to be conscripted. Has feminism EVER been about equality?

I have yet to see any evidence of that EVEN since the very beginning it has been about ideology of "We see what men have and we want that, but we don't what the bad that comes with it".

--Just want to add though. This isn't an argument agaisnt women voting, I think everyone that wants a voice should have a voice... HOWEVER.. the idea that feminism is about equality? Only feminists believe that and so they got dictionaries to agree with that despite their actions.

First wave was before I was born, but 2nd wave seemed to be about fairness to me. I was on-board at the time.

Since the advent of twitter and other forms of "I'm talking at you" social media, coupled with the overabundance of the under-educated, critical-thinking-skills-lacking Millennials and Gen-Zs, the whole thing has devolved into an industry instead of a movement about fairness.

1st wave wasn't all that great either. They have had their fair share of man-hate ever since the declaration of sentiments.

They gave women the ability (not right, the state doesnt give you rights) to vote without the prerequisite of going to war, owning property or any of that while men still have to do that to vote and none of those supposed warriors of equality batted an eye.

In hindsight, even the first wave was a terrible idea. And the reason is universal suffrage. They wanted to be able to vote men out and that is exactly what eventuated. I believe in democracy but the battle of the sexes should not be part of it. Everything bad has come from women's ingroup voting and men not ingroup voting.

I'm happy to have educational opportunities, ability to vote if I want on issues I deem important , and to make my own money without approval of my dad or husband. Establishing my own credit. Having my own bank account. Which I think wasn't allowed till the late 60s early 70s depending on location in the USA.

Which ever waves these abilities where established I'm much appreciative of.

4th wave I don't understand the hate ,or want to exterminate men out of existence. Just don't understand the logic.

Voting was not a "rignt" it was a privilege only people who payed taxes could vote .Voting became a right during or after ww1 .
