Blind women know that if they're seen dating an ugly man, her social status will go down.

So tbh I don't think she really cares about looks at that point, she cares about the stigma that comes with a woman "dating down". Even if she can't herself perceive what the issue is.

That's my best theory. It still doesn't make much sense, but it's a way of rationalizing it.
