Call me old fashioned, but I don't believe "people can be criminalized for saying this about race" implies they should be for saying similar things about gender as well.

I don't know anything about this Meghan Markle-Jeremy Clarkson situation (as I don't really follow celebrities), but this comment struck my eye.

I'm not sure US legislature is the greatest benchmark when it comes to relinquishing misogyny.

I'm going to assume by "misogyny" she means "hateful words about women" in this context. Of course, "misogyny" has a million different definitions now, so I could be wrong.

Threats of violence should definitely be looked into. But racist comments or mean words about women shouldn't be criminalized. They're despicable, yes, but words do not cause physical harm to people. I don't know what Britain's laws about speech are, but in the U.S., we have 1A, so nobody in America should be getting arrested for misogynistic/racist comments. You can't legislate thoughts or emotion.

But even saying racist things shouldn't be criminalized. Because it one promotes those ideas, out of a thing of oh I can't say that? Probably because it's true. Think about if you were banned from saying bad things about jews. Or thrown in jail. Other people would see that and think maybe it's true that the world is controlled by a secret jew conspiracy. And secondly because it is a slippery slope. It gives the government power to control speech which is horrible.
