Was there a key moment? I just stumbled upon this subreddit and I’m assuming at least a few of you held different beliefs at some point. I’d really appreciate your input.

I’ve called myself a feminist for years, but I’m hesitant to do so anymore. It has impacted my marriage negatively and made it hard for me to enjoy the time with my small children at home because I believed I „should be doing more“ or was „wasting my potential“. I’ve even had feminists tell me I’m actively sabotaging women as a whole by choosing to be a SAHM. Once you really listen close to actual feminists, you realize the whole mainstream image of feminism is inaccurate. It isn’t all „We just want equality“ and „We only want for women to be able to choose for themselves“. If you try to differentiate, you’ll be ridiculed and attacked. Saying „not all men“ in any shape or form will hardly be tolerated. Same goes for saying that abortion should not be completely unregulated up until birth. Many of them honestly believe that men are inherently repressive, abusive and violent, even if they call themselves feminists. I’m aware that there are different feminist movements (radical, queer, liberal, intersectional etc.), but it looks to me like the extreme talking points are increasingly accepted and adopted by the mainstream. Men will be demonized in the same breath as saying that our gender shouldn’t determine how we live our lives. And don’t even get me started on how parental rights are being discussed among feminists…

So, as you can see from my little rant, I’m not a convinced feminist anymore. I do have to say that some antifeminists make me uncomfortable as well, as a woman and mother of a daughter. Former feminists of this subreddit, I’d love to hear your perspective.
