Decent article that attempts to view both sides but, in my opinion, falls short. There is no actual realization of the negative effects of feminism on men in western society and, without doing so, attempts to grasp at straws to explain certain variables.

For example, reduced availability of jobs and stagnating wages was caused by introduction of a large population into the workforce (women entering during wartime). While it isn’t a negative to see women join the labor force, it is a negative for everyone due to the stagnating wages mentioned earlier.

One more thing I noticed is when addressing the childhood education showing boys falling behind. There is no attempt to investigate the curriculum and how the schools are ran. Not to mention the gender bias that has been reported in other western countries.

For things like schooling there are more initiatives and opportunities provided specifically to women than there are for men. This is part of the reason why women make up a larger percent of bachelor degree and masters degree recipients.

As for the portion referencing men seeing themselves as demigods in comparison to women. I believe this has to do with the social notion that women are “pure” and “innocent”. By taking this view, it destroys any notion that women can do something bad. This then follows along to promote women who commit perjury and waste police resources not getting charged or getting a slap on the wrist relative to what a man would get.

For the section that discusses men retaining positions of power, it focuses mainly on the gender of the one in power rather than the economic status. It is well known that those with money have much more power regardless of race and sex when compared to those from middle or lower classes. While it has been predominantly male-dominated, at this point it is more a factor about capital that is able to be relinquished to gain positions of power as well as nepotism being rampant.

While this article does identify and realize that men have their own set of problems that they face, it refuses to acknowledge across all arguments that an aspect of it can be related to a privilege assigned to women as well as ideology from the feminist movement that has influenced both policy and social outlook.

Reeves writes. “Suddenly, working for gender equality means focusing on boys rather than girls.”

Well, I can agree with this part at least. Reeves idea to require boys to start kindergarten a year later is a bunch of crap though. Starting later, means graduating later, which means one less year of our working years before we're too old to work or want to retire.

Hawley ... argued that the solution must begin with “repudiating the lie that America is systemically oppressive and men are systematically responsible,”

I'm surprised a liberal place like the New Yorker would print that, especially without immediately dismissing it or hand waving it away.

We have some idea of why blue-collar wages have stagnated: a macroeconomic shift that greatly raised the value of a college degree, owing in part to the decimation of manual labor by automation and globalization.

Feminists on campus are trying to chase away young men from universities across Canada. The Big Red activism is a danger to young men on campus.

Good article overall 👍

I appreciate that the author reflected Reeves' suggestion of redshirting boys criticly with consideration for the available literature.

Of course there's the jabs against the conservative position and no regard is being payed to the many systemic discriminations introduced by feminist policies, but that's to be expected from a liberal publication such as this.

What surprised me that at least this autor managed to acknowlege and accurately represent the earnings gap as being mostly caused by occupation, motherhood and the decline of the male working class.

There is a historical passage in which a Roman commander who was sent to conquer a Greek city, did not find any resistance, quite the contrary, he was received as a savior by men who were tired of the social dynamics they were living.

And thats reminds me of a quote: "Every feminized civilization will be conquered by one that is not."

i believe we are going to see more and more support for male issues from now on because the American military industry fathomed the lack of motivation that American men are about dying for them.

and no article that deals with men issues is really empathetic to men quoting Simone de Plagiauvoir in the whole thing. Just saying the obvious.
