Society is gynocentric.
Marriage is essentially about a man committing to support a woman till death do they part. If they divorce, he will still be required to give her financial support. Overall, marriage is designed to benefit women, not men. Obviously, getting a guy to make such a commitment is a huge win for women and is bride based.

If it's your wedding, you arrange the reception to your liking. The actual marriage ceremony involves a groom and a bride.

Money and marketing, The wedding industry is a huge over priced money making scheme. Its the same reason we are supposed to buy diamonds for engagements. Because it became standard practice due to advertising and early 20th century celebrities pushing diamonds as the in thing to wear.

At the time these ceremonies were invented, women were pure and most likely virgins.

Now it's comical to have the ran through women with a hundred bodies doing the same rituals.

You can have what you want. Traditionally men did not care as much about the wedding so it was geared towards who did care.
