Interacting with women makes men stupid. I haven't read the study or the article since I came across this bit of info years ago, but it rung so true that I took the headline at face value. I always felt like I had to walk on a tightrope when talking to women, they get the "ick" so easily and read into things that you pretty much have to walk on eggshells. And they say they are "scared of confrontation" so they'll pretend that everything is going well even if they aren't, so you can't even really calibrate that easily in the moment. You find out they didn't approve of something after, which can make some men guess at what in particular it was and then have those worries in future interactions. Women expect potential mates to be funny, which means taking risk, but IME they are more humorless than men and are more harsh about a joke failing.

Saying "women are just people" is just an empty platitude. Yeah, women are people but try telling the same vulgar shit you talk about with your mates or the rough housing you do with them with women and see where that gets you. Women =/ men. Women DO behave differently than men. There'll be all sorts of reasons like socialization, "the patriarchy", or the physical difference intimidating them, etc - but the fact remains men and women do not have the same. Let's take it to an easily disprovable example. You would agree that hitting both men and women is wrong right? But because of how women are different, hitting women is seen as different from hitting men. Yeah "women are just people blahblahblah", but the fact remains that women are different people. Not all people are the same.

For full disclosure, I will fully admit that I have social anxiety. I'm sure it is easier for guys who don't give a shit about offending women or whatever. The "women are wonderful" effect is pervasive and in many ways actively perpetuated in our society. It took me consciously understanding that women aren't shit to get beyond the state I was in above.
