My job offers no paternity leave for men, in fact you are forced to use your vacation. Women on the other hand are afforded 3 months paid leave, with the option to take another 3 months unpaid leave with no penalty.

It would be a significant improvement if we could start thinking in terms of the "parent track" rather than the "mommy track." Perhaps there would be more societal support for working parents if we stopped imaging these long-term financial penalties as mom's burden (and the increased pressure to earn as dad's burden), and realized that our current approach is putting the screws to the vast, vast majority of the population - everybody who has parented in the past, is parenting now, or will parent in the future. It's great to see this research being done.

"This conclusion is hardly surprising", they just tell the obvious, but some people need to be told the ovious apparently.

One thing is concerning they do speak about father taking more care about childrens etc, change the viey of society to permit father to take maternity leave to arronge workings hours because for the moment we are still on the view of 1950's when the mother was staying home for her whole life.

But when I agree to changes theses things for us men to have more liberty in our choices maybe we should change also the law behind divorce and custody, this is totally related for me. You cannot ask a men to take more care of his children by working less (and offering him a worst carrier) and after asking him in a divorce with 50/50 custody to pay the mother 1/4 of his salary. Once again this is what equality is about.
