Yeah, make no mistake, that's on purpose. They've seen people begin to rankle when men are not afforded the same rights or protections as women are.

It's poltical grandstanding and completely unessesary, its not going to go anywhere. All the subjects covered under the consitution are already applied equally to both women and men. Anyway the below line, seeing as how it is a standing clause and not dependent on the sentence before it would presume to cover men as well.

Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
