I find it insane that you guys are throwing so much money onto the poor, and it's doing nothing. It's like your government isn't actually trying to fix the problem at all.

This is a municipal ordinance, not state-wide.

Columbia's homelessness problem has a huge impact economically and socially. You cannot walk down the street in some places without running a gauntlet of crazy that rivals anything I've seen in New York or Philadelphia, and Columbia is a much smaller place.

But trucking people out to the boonies and locking them up? JESUS CHRIST. There are dozens of nonprofits in Columbia who are both able and willing to run 24/7 shelters if they were given some budget to do so. And imagine if we adequately funded the mental health clinics so that they could do street outreach and get folks stabilized on meds! Wowsers!
